Zu den g e g e n s ä t z l i c h e n S t a n d p u n k t e n : h i e r p o l n i s c h e r ]D ialekt - h i e r e i g e n s t ä n d i g e Sprache, möchte i c h n i c h t S t e l l u n g nehmen, zuma a u c h F r i e d r i c h L o r e n t z , d e r b e s t e Kenner d es K a s c h u b i s c h e n , k e i n a b s c h l i e ß e n d e s U r t e i l abgeben w o l l t e . Ic h erwähne a n d i e s e r S t e l l n u r e i n - wie m i r s c h e i n e n w i l l ־ w e s e n t l i c h e s Moment, d a s S e l b s t b e s t i m m u n g s r e c h t d e r Kaschuben. Unabhängig von d e n Argumenten d e r W i s s e n s c h a f t l e r h a t n ä m lic h d e r d u r c h s c h n i t t l i c h e Kaschube - wenn e r s i c h d es K a s c h u b is c h e n b e d i e n t ־ d as G e f ü h l, k e i n e n p o l n i s c h e n D i a l e k t , s o n d e r n e i n e e i g e n e Sprache zu s p r e c h e n .

D ie A nfänge d e r k a s c h u b i s c h e n L i t e r a t u r gehen a u f d i e Z e i t d e r R e f o r m a t i o n z u r ü c k , a l s e s w ün sch en sw ert e r s c h i e n , d as Wort G o t t e s d e r j e w e i l i g e n B e v ö lk e r u n g i n i h r e r M u t t e r s p r a c h e n ä h e r z u b r i n g e n .

Im J a h r e 1586 gab d e r a u s Bytów (Bütow) stammende P a s t o r Simon К г о f e y f ü r d i e i n Hinterpommern l e b e n d e n p r o t e s t a n t i s c h e n S l o w i n z e n "Duchowne p i e s n i e D .M arcina L u th e r a y y n ß i c h n a b o ż n i ch m^zov" ( G e i s t l i c h e L i e d e r d es D r . M a r t i n L u t h e r und a n d e r e r frommer Männer)^ h e r a u s . Die Sprache d i e s e r L i e d e r i s t zwar im w e s e n t -

l i e h e n P o l n i s c h , doch d e u t l i c h m i t k a s c h u b i s c h e n E i g e n h e i t e n d u r c h - s e t z t . D e n s e l b e n Weg wie K rofey b e s c h r i t t d e r P a s t o r von Smołdzino

( S c h m o l s i n ) - i n d e r Nahe d e s L e b a s e e s , damals n o c h r e i n k a s c h u - b i s c h - M i c h a e l B r ü g g e m a n n (auch P o n t a n u s o d e r M ostnik g e n a n n t ) , d e r im J a h r e 1643 i n Danzig das Buch "Der k l e i n e C a t e - chißmus D . M a r t i n i L u t h e r i / D e u t s c h unnd Wendisch gegen e i n a n d e r gesetzt"** m i t Anhang d e r s i e b e n Bußpsalmen König Davids und e i n e r P a s s i o n s g e s c h i c h t e h e r a u s g a b . D i e s e r " k l e i n e Catechißarus" n e b s t P a s s i o n s g e s c h i c h t e e r l e b t e im J a h r e 1758 s o g a r e i n e N e u a u fla g e . Der Grund, w ie so d i e s e e r s t e n V ersuche z u r S c h a f f u n g e i n e r k a s c h u - b i s c h e n L i t e r a t u r s p r a c h e n i c h t zum E r f o l g f ü h r t e n , i s t wohl d a r i n zu s u c h e n , daß s i e s i c h a u f d i e im ä u ß e r s t e n Westen des s l a w i s c h e n S i e d l u n g s g e b i e t e s l e b e n d e n k a s c h u b i s c h e n P r o t e s t a n t e n s t ü t z t e n , d i e n a c h und n a c h im Deutschtum a u f g i n g e n , so daß e s an d e r n ö t i g e n Resonanz f e h l e n m ußte. Auf d i e w e i t e r ö s t l i c h l e b e n d e k a t h o l i s c h - k a s c h u b i s c h e B e v ö l k e r u n g h a t t e n d i e s e S c h r i f t e n k e i n e Wirkung und b e e i n f l u ß t e n d a h e r a u ch d i e s i c h h i e r s p ä t e r e n t w i c k e l n d e k a s c h u - b i s c h e L i t e r a t u r i n k e i n e r Weise.

E r s t z u r Z e i t d e s ,,V ö l k e r f r ü h l i n g s11 um d i e M i t t e d e s v o r i g e n J a h r - h u n d e r t s , a l s o e r s t rund 200 J a h r e nach dem E r s c h e i n e n des " k l e i n e n C atech iß m u s" von Brüggemann/M ostnik, wurden d i e e r s t e n bewußten und k o n s e q u e n t e n S c h r i t t e z u r H e r a u s b i l d u n g e i n e r k a s c h u b i s c h e n

Nach dem Besuch d e s Gymnasiums i n C h o jn i c e ( K o n i t z ) , wo e r d i e p o l n i s c h e r o m a n t i s c h e P o e s i e k e n n e n l e r n t e , begann e r i n B r e s l a u Medizin zu s t u d i e r e n . Der E i n f l u ß d o r t w i r k e n d e r , h e r v o r r a g e n d e r s l a w i s c h e r G e l e h r t e r , d i e Begegnung m i t d e r erwachenden p o l n i s c h e n und t s c h e c h i s c h e n J u g e n d , d as K e n n e n l e r n e n d e r B e s tr e b u n g e n d e r I a u s i t z e r Sorben und Slowaken sowie s l a w o p h i l e r und s o z i a l k r i t i s c h e r I d e e n b e g r ü n -

d e t e n i n Ceynowa f ü r d a s ganze Leben d i e l e i d e n s c h a f t l i c h e L ie b e zu se in e m v e r n a c h l ä s s i g t e n , v e r a c h t e t e n und von d e r G e m a n i s i e r u n $ b e d r o h t e n Volk d e r K aschuben. Nachdem e r e r k a n n t h a t t e , daß e i n e g e w a lts a m e B e f r e i u n g d e r K aschubei n i c h t m ö g lic h w a r , v e r s u c h t e ез a u f l i t e r a r i s c h e m und p u b l i z i s t i s c h e m Wege, d as e i n g e s c h l a f e n e s l a w i s c h e V o lk s b e w u ß ts e i n s e i n e r k a s c h u b i s c h e n L a n d s l e u t e zu wecken und s i e von i h r e n u n g e r e c h t f e r t i g t e n M i n d e r w e r t i g k e i t s g e - f ü h l e n zu b e f r e i e n . Er begann b u c h s t ä b l i c h beim A l p h a b e t , denn s e i n 1850 i n Danzig g e d r u c k t e s B ü c h l e i n "X^zeczka d i o K aszebov׳'

( B ü c h l e i n f ü r Kaschuben) e n t h ä l t neben H e c h e n t a b e l l e n , k a s c h u b i - s e h e n S p r i c h w ö r t e r n , Gebeten una Redewendungen a u c h den e r s t e n E n tw u rf zu einem k a s c h u b i s c h e n A l p h a b e t . In a n d e r e n S c h r i f t e n f ü h r t e e r den Kaschuben v o r Augen, da3 s i e s i c h i n A n b e t r a c h t i h r e r r u h m re ic h e n G e s c h i c h t e weder v o r den D e u ts c h e n noch v o r den F o l e n zu schämen b r a u c h e n . In s e i n e r S c h r i f t "kozmòva P òlòcha s Kaszeb^ '1 (G espräch e i n e s P o len m i t einem K a s c h u b e n ) , 1850, a b e r a u c h i n s p ä t e r e n , z . T . p o l n i s c h g e s c h r i e b e n e n A u f s ä t z e n g r i f f e r den p o l n i s c h e n Adel und d i e G e i s t l i c h k e i t wegen i h r e r mangelnden a u f k l ä r e r i s c h e n und e r z i e h e r i s c h e n T ä t i g k e i t u n t e r den Kaschuben s c h a r f a n . S e i n e r s e i t s wurde e r von d i e s e r S e i t e d e s S e p a r a t i s m u s , d es A n t i k l e r i k a l i s m u s , d e r M o s k a u h ö r i g k e i t und d e r Schwächung d e r p o l n i s c h e n Sache d u r c h k ü n s t l i c h e Absonderung d e r Kaschuben b e - s c h u l d i g t .
