E s w u r d e n g ro ß e E r w a r t u n g e n in d ie E n t f a lt u n g d e s A u ß e n h a n d e ls m i t E n t w ic k lu n g s lä n d e r n g e s e tz t, je d o c h w a r d e r E r f o l g n u r b e g r e n z t. In b e d e u te n d e m A u s m a ß w u rd e auch das S o r- t im e n t an E in - u n d A u s f u h r w a r e n e r w e i t e r t , d o c h h a tte d ie D i v e r s i f i z i e - r u n g d e r A u s f u h r n ic h t i m m e r d e n g e w ü n s c h te n E f f e k t . S ie w u r d e i m B e - r e ic h d e s V e r r e c h n u n g s v e r k e h r s v o n e i n e r P o l i t i k g e s p a lt e n e r W e c h s e l- k u r s e b e g le it e t , d ie s c h l ie ß l i c h d a z u f ü h r t e , daß m a n ö k o n o m is c h n ic h t g e n a u e r m i t t e l n k o n n te , m i t w e lc h e m E r f o l g m a n A u ß e n h a n d e l t r i e b . Im Zuge des Ü b e rg a n g s vo m a d m in is t r a t iv g e le ite - te n zum k o m m e r z ia lis ie r t e n A ußenhandel s tie g d ie Z a h l d e r A ußenhandelsun- te rn e h m u n g e n von 154 a u f 320, w o b e i d ie D ire k tio n e n v o llk o m m e n abgeschafft w u r d e n . 1962 gab es 485 A u ß e n h a n d e ls u n te rn e h m u n g e n . In d e r F o lg e z e it s c h w a n kte ih r e Z a h l z w is c h e n 377 und 511. D ie W ir t s c h a f t s r e f o r m von 1965 fü h r te zu e in e r w e ite re n K o n z e n tra tio n d e r A u ß e n handelsunternehm ungen, so daß d ie A n z a h l d e r a u s s c h lie ß lic h im A u ß e n h a n d e l tä tig e n U n te rn e h m u n g e n s ic h von 204 a u f 141 v e r r in g e r te . Sie b e s c h ä ftig te n 2 8 .0 5 8 P e rs o n e n und w ie - sen e in K a p ita l von 275 M i l l . US D o lla r s o w ie e in e n U m s a tz von 1. 940 M i l l . US D o lla r aus.
