Precision measurements of properties of the neutron or its decay yield important parameters of the standard model of particle physics but are also used to search for new particles or interactions. These experiments are complementary to high-energy physics at colliders. Their requirements, for example in terms of neutron polarisation or intensity, push developments of neutron techniques. I will review recent experiments with cold neutrons and discuss technological challenges and achievements.
