= Act of Spiritual Communion = by Saint Alphonsus Liguori

My Jesus, I believe that Thou art present in the Blessed Sacrament. I love Thee above all things

and I desire Thee in my soul. Since I cannot now receive Thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though thou wert already there, I embrace Thee and unite myself wholly to Thee; permit not that I should ever be

separated from Thee. Amen.

THIRIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 25, 2020

Dear Saint Joseph and All Saints Parishioners:

I want to publicly take an opportunity to con- gratulate and introduce our two Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) candidates who have bravely stepped forward and begun the process of preparing to receive Sacraments.

Nathan Lacroix: Nathan is a resident of Burril- ville and currently a student at Rhode Island College. For the past several summers Nathan has worked as a counselor at the Mother of Hope Camp in Glocester running week-long programs for children. When he is not attending Mass at his home parish, Nathan regularly attends Mass at Saint Mary Parish on Broadway in Providence, the Latin Mass parish run by the Priestly Frater- nity of St. Peter where he is also involved in the thriving Young Adult Group. Nathan has al- ready been baptized and is preparing to make his First Confession and receive his First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Matthew Supplee: Matthew is 30 years old, a resident of Woonsocket, and is a candidate for full conversion in the Catholic Church. Matthew will be preparing for Baptism, First Confession, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

It is often said that God does not speak in a loud, boisterous voice but in a soft, subtle whisper deep within the heart. And so we first and fore- most thank God for calling Nathan and Matthew to a deeper relationship with Him and we con- gratulate them for listening to that still, small voice of the Lord. Please pray for our candidates and when you see them at Mass, please make sure you introduce yourself and congratulate them!

Peace, Father Ryan

Calling All Men!!!

The Men of St. Joseph is a Catholic group for men who wish to grow in their relationship with God

and claim their role as the spiritual leaders of their families. Men of St. Joseph dedicate their lives to God by making Him first in all things, especially through attending Sunday Mass with their families; they grow in grace through the fre- quent reception of the Sacrament of Confession;

they live with integrity and honesty; they learn more about their vocation as men, husbands, and

fathers through prayer and discussion; and they build a fraternity with other men striving for the same goals in holiness. For more information,

contact Dennis Blanchette at dennis_blanchette@yahoo.com.

SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH OCTOBER 25, 2020

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time/Oct. 25, 2020 First Reading:

“You shall not wrong any widow or orphan.

If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry.

My wrath will flare up, and I will kill you with the sword.” (Ex 22:21-23a)

Psalm:

I love you, Lord, my strength. (Ps 18) Second Reading:

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, receiving the word in great affliction, with joy from the Holy Spirit,

so that you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. (1 Thes 1:6-7) Gospel:

Jesus said to him,

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart,

with all your soul, and with all your mind.

This is the greatest and the first commandment.

The second is like it:

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mt 22:37-39)

REFLECT

First Reading

Today’s reading is an excerpt from the many laws Moses received at Mount Sinai. We learn that God expects empathy and compassion for the most vulnerable in society. How do you show care for those in need?

Second Reading

Paul saw the believers in the city of Thessalonica as models for the faith in the surrounding re- gions of Macedonia and Achaia. Who would you hold up today as a model Christian?

Gospel Reading

Jesus teaches the religious leaders in Jerusalem that love of God and love of neighbor and self are the greatest commandments. Which of these two commandments do you find more challenging?
