Baptism !

The Church shares the joy of families in the birth of children and with their parents takes seriously the responsibility of bringing them up in the faith. Parents seeking baptism for their children are to attend Baptismal Preparation Class. This can be arranged by calling the parish office. Parents should be registered members of the parish. Godparents, those who represent the Church in the life of the child, must be practicing Catholics. If they are married, they must have been married in the Church, practice the faith regularly, and must obtain a sponsor certificate from their home parish. Please choose Godparents with these criteria in mind.

!

Anointing of the Sick!

This sacrament is given for those facing serious illness or surgery, and for those of ad- vanced years. If you or a family member is planning to enter the hospital, please see one of the priests following Mass if you would like to receive this sacrament.

!Marriage!

This great sacrament of vocation is a joyous time, but also a time of very serious spiritual preparation.

The responsibility assumed by the couple and the Church is significant. While many focus on the day of the wedding, we seek to prepare for the second day and beyond. The Bishops of NJ have adopted a policy to assist in this preparation. Attendance at Engaged Encounter, Pre

!

Cana, or another approved marriage preparation program, and individual sessions with a priest or deacon are required of all couples. Couples should contact the rectory one year in advance of the intended marriage, and before finalizing other details of the wedding particu- larly reception facilities.

!

Religious Education!

Our program helps parents educate their children about our Catholic faith and traditions.

We offer a comprehensive program for children in grades 1

!

8 from September through April. Our program is combined with our linked sister parish, Sacred Heart in Bay Head, and classes are held there on Sundays fol- lowing the 9:15am Mass. For more information or to register call John Paglione, Religious Education Coordina- tor, at 732

Seven Considerations While Navigating Infertility

Read the full version at respectlife.org/navigating!infertility.

!

We often assume parenthood happens easily after “I do,”

but for many married couples, it does not. For some, the joy of conception never happens. Others suffer repeated miscarriages. Still others experience secondary infertility:

after giving birth to one or more children, they are unable to have another. If you experience difficulty bringing a child into your family, know that God is with you, and that He has a beautiful plan for your life as a married couple.

You are not alone; His Church desires to walk with you.

The full article at the website listed above contains com- passionate, practical guidance, intended primarily for mar- ried couples struggling with infertility, though others may also find it to be informative.!

God is with you, and His Church desires to walk with you.

From Father Doug:!

!! Recently I had a conversation with someone about the needs of so many people near us that we don’t even see. I had the same conversation at both parishes, for Sacred Heart about St. Gregory’s Pantry by Hugh Hurley, and for St. Pio, St. Francis Food Pantry and Simon’s Kitch- en, by too many of our volunteers, but Tony Gallo is the most persistent!!

! World Mission Sunday is coming up and there are envelopes available to help in the tremendous needs of many throughout the world. The Bishop has asked for generosity in this worldwide appeal to Catholics around the world for the Pontifical Mission Society.!

! Closer to home, it was suggested that each one of us should add a pound every week when we go to the su- permarket. Think of it, if every parishioner brought each week a pound of something added to their regular grocer- ies, for St. Gregory and St. Francis food pantries. Think of it, a pound of rice can feed a family for two days. A pound bag of beans can do the same. Pasta as well, and sauce and they have recently told me about the importance of personal care items.!

! If you want to see a very moving story about reaching out like the saints to people in need please read this article, just copy it and put it in your browser, it’s worth it! https://www.policeone.com/policeheroes/

articles/485048006Cophelpshomelessmantryingto shaveinpuddle/ . If you want an easy way to read that moving story go to the bulletin on line and the hyperlink will take you to it.!

! Remember we will be judged on our faith and on our fulfilment of the Corporal Works of Mercy. I trust we remember them: feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked, visit the sick and imprisoned, bury the dead, and give alms to the poor.!

FALL TIPS FOR HEALTHY LIVING!

! Sweet Potatoes: Winter Superfood! It’s one of the sweetest ways to make a healthful changeget hot about sweet potatoes. These lus- cious orange tubers boast a wealth of antioxidants; phytochemicals including betacarotene; vitamins C and E; folate; calcium; copper;

iron; and potassium. The fiber in sweet potatoes promotes a healthy digestive tract, and the antioxidants may play a role in pre- venting heart disease and cancer. The natural sweetness of a roasted sweet potato is delicious without any additional fats or fla- vor enhancers.!

!

!! Padre Pio Prayer Anthology!

Our first parish prayer anthology will include many types of pray- ers. We will begin our collecon with prayers that you can use to develop a relaonship with God that is more personal and in- mate .!

!

Prayer #3!

Focus idea: Many mes our prayers to God are prayers of pe- on. We are asking for God’s help in dealing with a personal issue that deeply troubles us. So many of these situaons are not put upon us by God, or the result of our own poor choices, but simply the random and unavoidable consequences of living in an imper- fect world. When something upsets us, we tend to approach prayer by asking God to make a very specific outcome happen, that is, to totally solve our problem, and relieve us of our anxiety.

As Deacon John explains it, “While it is not wrong to make our desires known to God, it is a good idea to trust in God’s love for us. That means being open to His will.” Know, believe and trust that God will be our strength, and will love, support and guide us through the troubling moments in our lives!!

!

Prayer of Trust in God’s Love:!

Most high, glorious God, cast Your light into the darkness of my heart. Please Lord, give me the right faith, a firm hope, and pro- found humility. Help me to find wisdom and percep/on, so that I may carry out what is truly Your holy will. Help me to always find comfort and peace through a loving rela/onship with You, a God whose love for each one of us is warm, compassionate and steadfast!!

!

Closing thoughts: Connue to tell Jesus what is in your heart. He will always understand! Thank Him for your gi2s and most of all, thank Him for loving you with His most Sacred Heart!!
