Respected brothers:

Once again we find ourselves on pilgrimage in this beautiful Lenten season that the liturgy presents us with the aim of discovering the need to live reconciled with God and with our brothers and sisters. We know that Lent is the time that precedes and disposes us to celebrate, with a repentant and renewed heart, the Passover of Our Lord Jesus Christ: his passion, death and resurrection that for love of every human being humbled himself to the extreme.

This means that the goal and summit of this beautiful time is to bring the Christian to an intense listening of the Word of God, to a preparation of renewed disposition to live in permanent conversion, lovingly practic- ing "the weapons of Christian penance" as: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. "Weapons" that Christ himself mentioned in his Gospel as the only way we have to overcome the frontal attack of the enemy through temp- tations.

If we knew the happiness that intoxicates the true disciple of Christ by being in that permanent listening to the Word of God, in that sincere and determined conversion and in the intense practice of the penitential works already enumerated, we would feel the same desire to acquire it for ourselves and ourselves. We would strive to reach a deeper perfection in our life of faith, trying to imitate Christ gentle and humble of heart.

Therefore, like the old people of Israel who marched for forty years in the desert, overcoming all kinds of obstacles, to enter the promised land, the Church, the new and definitive people of God, is prepared for forty days to live this renewed encounter with the Lord and accompany him in his Passover, in an attitude of pu- rification and renewal of the Christian life in order to participate joyfully in the greatest mystery of God's love as was the surrender of his Son on the tree of the cross .

Unfathomable mystery of total love and obedience of Christ to his Father God and of total love and dedica- tion of Jesus Christ to achieve the salvation of all those men and women who, accepting his sacrifice on the Cross, were willing to follow in his footsteps despite the setbacks and adversities of life. This also means that salvation is a free gift of God for his creature, but that it requires the total opening of the creature to re- ceive that grace and that saving gift of God.

So this way is to cooperate with the grace that comes from God to kill the old man full of vices and sins and welcome the new and renewed man that brings us the gift and the presence of the Holy Spirit. It is, in short, to break the relationships of everything that separates us from God's plan and plunges us into the mud of oblivion.

The Lord Jesus allows us to live this Lent as the first and the last of our life to be able to taste it with intensi- ty. Well, we know that we have spent many Lent and, with certainty, that in some of them we have made changes, but, nevertheless, we have not specified them. May this year really be a year of renewed grace and full openness to God's plan, so that we can drink from the sources of salvation and as Peter we can repeat:

"Lord, how good it is here" and we can hear the voice of the Father who also tells us: "This is my beloved Son, listen to him".

Respetados hermanos:

SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES CONTINUING IN LENT

Small Christian Communities help ordinary people connect faith with everyday life experiences. This is accomplished through prayer, sharing, listening, learning, mutual support and outreach. Ordi- nary parishioners gather weekly [during Lent and Advent] to sit in God’s presence and share, from their hearts, how God is acting in their lives in the light of the gospel. Faithsharing is not Bible study; is not a discussion group; is not a lecture on religion. Faith sharing IS connect- ing your life and your life’s story to God’s Word, Sacred Scripture. For more information, see or contact Marlyce Pietrantonio@856769 2365. Sign up for a group meeting: Wed. EveningCarneys Point Richard Watson; Wed. EveningSalemPaul Crossland; Fri.
