Crossings of wild clover from higher sites of Grindelwald with Mattenklee breeding material. Progenies were backcrossed in two more cycles with Mattenklee breeding material. Selection of single plants and their progenies.

DAFILA is the first diploid variety of Mattenklee where indigenous red clover from meadows has been crossed with Mattenklee breeding material. After the second backcross with Mattenklee, there is about one eighth of the genotype which leads back to ecotypes from the region of Grindelwald. DAFILA blooms earlier than the other cultivars of Mattenklee and excels in a

distinguished persistence.
