The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University presents:
Held in Tension: Defining and Exhibiting the Arts in a Global Culture Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Brandeis University, Pollack Auditorium.
In conjunction with the exhibition "Co-existence: Contemporary Cultural Production in South Africa", The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University presents, "Held in Tension: Defining and Exhibiting the Arts in a Global Culture". This program brings together scholars and artists from South Africa and the United States to discuss the diversity of creative activity in South Africa today.
The morning session of the symposium, Jostling for Position: Defining Cultural Production in a Post-Colonial Context examines the complex issues involved in cultural exchange between the "first" and "third" worlds. The panelists are artist Thembinkosi Goniwe, Cornell University; Dr. Christopher Steiner, Connecticut College; and Jessica J. Taplin, Emory University.
