Parents should take a class to properly prepare for the Baptism of their first child or they should take it if they have never taken a Baptism
preparation class before.
Classes should be scheduled at least one month prior to the date of the desired baptism.
Sessions are offered on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 9:00 p.m. or Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m 6:30 p.m. at St. Valentine Church and can be arranged by calling Carol Vater 4128354415. Sessions are also offered at St. Germaine’s Church and can be
arranged at your convenience by calling Mary Beth Green 4128330661. The site of the Baptism Preparation class does not determine the church where your child’s baptism will be held. In the Baptism Preparation session, we discuss the nature, purpose and administration of the Sacraments.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul assists “friends in need” in our local area as well as around the Diocese. On March 23 and 24 our parish will have a second collection to benefit the Society. One half of the proceeds will remain with our parish and the other half will be sent to the Council of Pittsburgh to help with outreach functions throughout the Pittsburgh Diocese. This benefit will be given to the needy of all four churches within our grouping. During Lent we are asked to pray, fast and give alms. This will be a wonderful way to perform almsgiving!
You can learn more about our Society by picking up a brochure at the sides of the church and in the vestibule.

We are proud of our 7th grade students attended the Rite of Enrollment Mass and took the first step toward their 2020 Confirmation.
St. Patrick’s Day is a good time to explore Catholic Online ± Saints &
Angels. It is the largest collection of Catholic Saints available online.
Search for your child’s patron saint and discover all that you ever wanted to know about them. There are over 10,000 Saints available to search.
You may search by name or area of patronage. It is an easy site to use and has a lot of information telling you what it requires to become a Saint, when a person was indoctrinated as a Saint in the church and in what year they were named saints.
Formed.org has a short movie about the life of St. Patrick that blends historical fact with beloved Irish tradition. At 16, Irish raiders kidnap him and take him to Ireland. As a slave and shepherd, Patrick faces a bleak future. With God, he finds new strength and inner freedom and his faith helps him prevail.

Calling all Bakers!

It Is Good That We Are Here ± As we hear the account of the Transfiguration of Jesus in today’s Gospel, it is hard not to try to imagine what that scene was like. Picture yourself standing with Peter, James and John as Jesus, joined by Moses and Elijah, suddenly appears in dazzling white and surrounded in glory. The reaction of those Apostles was not one of fear, but of joy. Peter exclaims, “it is good that we are here,” and suggests that they build tents so that they could remain in the presence of such a glorious scene for ever. What the Apostles did not know then, although we have the privilege of realizing now, is that their desire would become the reality of the Church. Each time
we come to Mass, Jesus is raised up before our very eyes as he is made present in the Eucharist. As we gaze upon the host we see Christ in the flesh with eyes of faith. And as we receive Him in Holy Communion, he remains with us to strengthen us to be about the work of discipleship. While there are many crosses we currently have to bear as Catholics, we have the opportunities each week to come face to face with our God who gives us life and assists us in carrying our crosses. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Serenity Prayer
Reinhold Niebuhr (18921971)God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking as Jesus did this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Psalm Reflection
Psalm 27: 1, 78, 89, 1314 “The Lord is my light and my salvation”
“Today’s First Reading and Gospel reveal that faith moves back and forth between moment of revelation and periods of darkness. Abraham must sit through a terrifying darkness before hearing God’s promise.
Peter, James, and John are overcome by darkness and fear after seeing Christ glorified. We, too, have mo- ments when we see the glory promised us in Christ and moments when, asleep or in a trance, we sit in dark- ness. Our future is full of Easter light, but our journey there travels through darkness. May we walk toward the Light with stouthearted trust and hope.”
Reflection taken from Cry Out with Joy, published by GIA Publications, Chicago, IL.
Instrumentalists Wanted
We are seeking volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists with a joyful and loving spirit to serve in Mass during the coming months. If you (or someone you know) would like to play or sing a special music selection as part of the prelude, offertory meditation or communion meditation, let us know. All musicians and abilities are welcome!
If interested, please contact Kyle Davies.

BUNDLES FOR BABIES PROJECT
Dear fellow parishioners of St.Valentine Church,
The Ladies of Charity are requesting your participation in our Bundles for Babies Project which was instituted in September 2015, approximately 10 months after Jefferson Hospital opened a Women & Infants Center and Maternity Ward.
Recognizing the need for new Moms to read to their babies, "Bundles for Babies Project” was formed. To date we have about 1500 bags to the new Moms. (REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS BELIEFS). Each bag contains a bib, book, bookmark and Mr.Yuk magnet and stickers.
This collection is an ongoing project….We invite you to participate by donating new story books, as they are what is most needed at this time. (PLEASE, NON RELIGIOUS BOOKS ONLY, DUE TO BAGS GIVEN RANDOMLY). We thank you in advance for supporting this most worthy project.
The box to collect the books will be located in the vestibule. Our sincere appreciation, Ladies of Charity, Nativity Church.
What Is God Calling You To Do This Lent?
So many of us focus on giving up something, perhaps we should give something to the One who gives us everything!
Come spend some time praising, adoring and giving thanks to Our Savior for His sacrificial love.
Pray, read Scripture, talk to Him who is waiting for you and wants to welcome you into His merciful presence.
Come grow in holiness in adoration of our Lord. Thursdays 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM
St. Valentine Women’s Guild Flea Market
Saturday, May 4, 2019
As we begin easing into spring, you are probably thinking this is a perfect time to clean out those closets and take a second look at what is stored in your attic, garage, and basement. Perhaps you are just tired of seeing the same decorations in your home and want a new look. Either way, our annual Flea Market can help you declutter. Once a date has been confirmed, you can start dropping your donated items off in Frawley Hall. Watch future bulletins for further information as the date draws near.
Please remember that we do not accept clothes of any kind, electronics, books, or exercise equipment.
There are a few tables still available at $20 each. If you’re interested in renting a table, please contact Sandy Wagner at 4128544656.
