UPOV No Characteristics State of expression Note
Alike the varieties Algira and Arcturus, Salmo originates from a colchicine treatment to transform diploid elite breeding material tracing back to Swiss ecotypes into the tetraploid state.
Salmo shows 2 days earlier heading than the variety Lacerta. Its main advantages are its high yield potential, a fast regrowth after cutting and a good resistance level against several diseases. In the official trials, its digestibility was found to be on the same level as for Arvicola and Artesia, but somewhat lower than for Lacerta. In our own trials, its digestibility was on the same level as for the top variety Salamandra.
