Walk the dog

Walk the dog

Three times a day we go for a walk.

In the morning Rick takes me out for the first time.

He needs the dog-lead.

I like running away to meet my friends.

We go down the street.

There is a piece of grass where I can make wee-wee and a small heap.

When Mary comes home for lunch we go for a second long walk.

She takes me to the lake.

In summer Mary throws a ball.

But I don’t swim! I hate water!

That is why we loose all the balls.

When it’s good weather Mary jumps

into the lake. She is a good ball finder and brings it back to me. Good girl!

In the evening we all go for our third walk.

In the dark I can smell a lot of things.

At the corner of the garden there is the wee-wee of Barker.

Barker barks all the time and is the neighbours’ dog.

Next to the book shop there is the pet shop.

I love the smell of dog food.

All my friends leave a message at the door.

It takes a long time to read them all.

Rick, don’t pull me!

There is a note from Ruby.

In a bush I find a bone. Quick!

Now, we must go home!

I want to hide my bone so that I can eat it tomorrow.

“Rick, stop! Why is Gilbert pulling?“, Mary asks.

“Oh, no, not again a bone! Spit it out, boy!“, says Rick.

How do you know I have a bone?

Take your hand out of my mouth!

Rrrrrrrr! I can bite!

“You naughty dog! Don’t you bite my hand!“

Ouch! Rick, you slapped my nose.

I am so surprised that I let the bone fall down.

I don’t like you any more, Rick – let us say until you give me my dinner.

Vocabulary:

quick – schnell

small heap – das Häufchen until – bis

lake – der See

At the doctor’s

I’m so tired today. My eyes are small. They hurt. I have a headache.

I don’t want to get up. Leave me alone in my basket.

Mary comes and pats me.

“Hey, socks, what’s wrong with you?“ – I feel bad!

“Your nose is warm and dry. Are you ill?“ – I don’t know.

“Drink some water.“ – No, thank you.

“Look, here is a dog biscuit.“ – No, thank you.

“Oh, boy, you don’t drink and you do not even eat.

You must be ill. We must go to Doctor Bear.“

Oh, no! This man is terrible.

But I am too weak to run away.

Mary puts me into the car and takes me to the doctor’s house.

It’s a big white house in town.

It smells interesting in front of the door.

Many poor cats and dogs like me are here.

Doctor Bear has got a big waiting-room.

Two women with a black cat and a fat pug-dog wait.

We are third after them.

We must wait for an hour.

It’s half past four. Now Doctor Bear has got time.

I don’t like his smell. He smells like medicine.

He looks into my eyes.

“It’s an inflammation of the eyes.

Mrs Adams, you must put one or two drops into each eye three times a day for one week.“

Oh, my God! He wants to kill me!

Hey, what are you doing? What’s in this little bottle?

It’s so cold in my eyes! Who switched off the light?

Oh, help! I am blind! It’s burning!

“You must take drops, old boy!“

What is it? And I am not your old boy, old doctor!

At the doctor’s
