Term Test 2 – Friday 2 March 1. Energy in a Reaction
Understand the terms endothermic (takes energy in) and exothermic (gives energy out)
Understand that in a chemical reaction first bonds need to be broken (endothermic) and then new bonds are made (exothermic).
Be able to interpret and sketch energy diagrams
2. Chemical Reactions
Be able to describe decomposition reactions, where one pure substance reacts to form at least two pure substances.
Be able to describe synthesis reactions where at least two pure substances react to form one pure substance.
Be able to describe the function of catalysts substances that lower the activation energy of a reaction.
o A catalyst lowers the activation energy and/or speeds the reaction up o The catalyst is not changed in the reaction
3. Stoichiometry
Know that atoms cannot be created or destroyed
Be able to balance chemical equations
Understand that the index number is part of the chemical formula and give the number of an atom type in a compound.
Understand that stoichiometric factor gives the number of molecules or ratio units in the reaction.
