Im Deutschen hängt man an einen Satz manchmal ein »nicht wahr?«, »oder?«, »gell?«
usw. an. Im Englischen werden diese Frageanhängsel viel häufiger gebraucht.
Sie sind abhängig von dem Verb, das in dem vorherigen Satz vorkommt:
Madonna is ... , isn't she? The Stones are .... , aren't they?
Paul was ..., wasn't he? The Beatles were ...., weren't they?
You are ..., aren't you? You were ..., weren't you?
She sings ..., doesn't she? He played ..., didn't he?
You play ..., don't you? You played ..., didn't you?
Unterstreiche zuerst das Verb und bilde dann das Frageanhängsel:
All four of the Beatles are born in Liverpool, aren't they?
In 1962 the Beatles played in Hamburg, didn't they?
Most of the songs were written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, weren't they?
The Beatles are still very popular, aren't they?
John Lennon was married to Yoko Ono, wasn't he?
»Let It Be« was their last record, wasn't it?
The Beatles separated in 1970, didn't they?
John Lennon is dead, isn't he?
He was shot in New York, wasn't he?
