mehrerer manuell geführter sektorförmiger Abtastungen zu einem Bild. Der Bildaufbau dauerte hierbei relativ lange, was dazu geführt hat, daß dieses Verfahren heute nicht mehr in Gebrauch ist (ZENTNER 1994).
2. Real-time-Verfahren (schnelles B-Bild): Krause und Soldner stellten 1965 das Real-time (Echtzeit-)Verfahren vor. Durch die Erzeugung von mehr als 18 Bildern/
Sekunde konnten auf dem Monitor bewegte Bilder dargestellt werden und ermöglichten damit atem- und pulssynchrone Abbildungen fast in Echtzeit
(ZENTNER 1994).

M-Mode:
Motion-Mode setzt die Amplitude des Ultraschalls in Bezug zur Aufnahme sich bewegender Strukturen, wie z.B. des Herzmuskels.
Array:
Als „Array“ bezeichnet man eine reihenförmige Anordnung von vielen piezoelektrischen Ultraschallwandlerelementen. Ein Lineararray besteht aus n Elementen, von denen jeweils eine Gruppe von m Elementen elektronisch geschaltet werden.
Zur Erzeugung von dreidimensional gesteuerten bzw. fokussierten Schallstrahlen zur Abtastung eines abzubildenden Bereiches wird, wenn auf mechanisch bewegte Elemente verzichtet werden soll, das Phased-Array-Prinzip verwendet. Dieses erfordert die Aufteilung der Schall abstrahlenden Fläche in viele einzelne, elektrisch und mechanisch voneinander isolierte Ultraschalleinzelantennen, üblich sind bis zu einigen Hundert dieser Elemente.
Impulsbreite: bezeichnet in dieser Arbeit die Länge [ms] der abgegebenen Ultraschallimpulse
Stimulationsfrequenz: bezeichnet den zeitlichen Abstand zwischen zwei abgegebenen Ultraschallimpulsen
