Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Cirrhosis Patients Pose Similar Risks of Bleeding When Compared to Traditional
Anticoagulation
39 patients with cirrhosis who received anticoagulation therapy over a 3-year period (20 DOAC and 19 traditional anticoagulation) from a research database.
Medical records were reviewed to obtain clinical data to compare between the groups.
There were 2 major bleeding events in the traditional anticoagulation group and 1 major bleeding event in the DOAC group
There were 3 documented bleeding events in the
traditional anticoagulation group and 4 bleeding events in the DOAC group

Retrospective cohort study of patients with cirrhosis prescribed therapeutic
anticoagulation over a 3-year period for
thrombosis or prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. The primary outcomes of interest were bleeding events and recurrent thrombosis or stroke.
27 patients with cirrhosis were prescribed a DOAC and 18 were prescribed VKA or low molecular weight heparin (LMWH).
