Description:
Art History Position, Modern Art. Academic Year 2005-2006
The Department of Art and Design, Minnesota State University Moorhead, seeks an art historian
specializing in modern art for a one-year, full-time sabbatical replacement position. Ph.D.
preferred. ABD considered with teaching experience in appropriate areas. The position includes full
benefits and the salary range is: $43,098-45,189. The teaching load is 3/3, with 2 preps/semester.
The candidate will be responsible for teaching two sections of a senior seminar devoted to post-war
art and design theory as well as selected upper level courses such as:
19th-Century Art,
20th-Century Art, Women and Art, American Art, Art Criticism, or Modern Architecture. In addition,
the department views this as an opportunity to offer courses not usually available to our students,
and therefore will give preference to candidates with the ability to offer upper-level courses in
special areas such as the History of Design or Photography, Native American Art, Pre-Columbian Art,
or African Art.

Education, and Art
History. The largest curricular units within the department are Graphic Design, Photography, and Art
Education. We have a collegial and student-oriented department with strong Visiting Artist and
Gallery programs. The Art History curriculum is rigorous and highly valued within the largely
studio-oriented program. The Slide Library holds approximately 80 thousand slides, and the lecture
room has recently been outfitted for digital projection.
Moorhead is located on the west-central border of Minnesota, directly across the Red River from
Fargo, North Dakota. Fargo-Moorhead is also home to Concordia College—a small private Lutheran
college—and North Dakota State University, a Land Grant, research-oriented institution. The combined
urban population of approximately 150,000 supports a civic opera company and symphony, several
community theater groups, and two art museums with extensive programming. The area is served by
Hector International Airport, with direct flights to Chicago and Denver, and all other national and
international service through the convenient Minneapolis hub.

graduate transcripts (may be unofficial), proposals or syllabi for 2 or 3 upper-level courses that
you are prepared to offer, and the names and contact information for three references. The
