Explain a Flame!!
Watch the short video on http://www.centerforcommunicatingscience.org/what-is-a-flame/ - more specifically, the second video (7:31 min). You will need to take notes (use the back of the sheet of paper).
Then answer the following questions.
1. Why are there different colours in a flame?
2. What happens in the blue part of a flame?
3. What happens in the orange, yellow and red parts of a flame?
4. What is the first thing that happens when you light a candle?
5. Describe another part of the process you found interesting?
6. Write down 3 new words you learnt and their meanings?
Describe what heat is? What happens with the atoms, when you increase the temperature?
Read page 50 in “Netzwerk Physik” to understand the Kelvin scale – it is just another kind of temperature scale:
T: Temperature in Kelvin ϑ: Temperature in degrees Celsius
T = ϑ +273,15 K 1) Calculate the room temperature in Kelvin.
2) At what temperature, in Kelvin, does water boil?
3) Nitrogen becomes a liquid below 77 K. How many degree Celsius is that?
