invites applications from outstanding junior scholars for two-year
Postdoctoral Fellowships
in connection with an interdisciplinary research project on "The Common Languages of Art and Science", organized by Lorraine Daston (MPIHS) and M.
Norton Wise (UCLA), September 2001- August 2003. Proposals should focus on aspects of the interaction between art and science in historical
context. Although the project concentrates on the 18th-20th centuries, topics concerning other periods will also be considered. Applications from scholars of all nationalities and disciplines are welcome; the colloquium language is English.
Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. no later than 30 June 2001 and no earlier than 30 June 1996. The stipend for postdoctoral fellows from abroad is 3600 DM.
Women are encouraged to apply. Qualifications being equal, precedence will be given to candidates with disabilities.

invites applications from outstanding junior scholars for a three-year Research Fellow Position
in connection with an interdisciplinary research project on "The Common Languages of Art and Science", organized by Lorraine Daston (MPIHS) and M.
Norton Wise (UCLA), September 2001- August 2003. Proposals should focus on aspects of the interaction between art and science in historical
context; especially sought after are proposals concentrating on the relationships between artistic/architectural and scientific/techical drawing, 18th-20th centuries. Applications from scholars of all nationalities and disciplines are welcome; the colloquium language is English.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. (awarded no later than 31 December 2000), and a strong publication record. The position is paid according to the German scale for wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter BAT IIa-O, which, depending on scholarly qualifications, corresponds approximately to the
assistant/associate professor level.
