Research Fellowships

Institute for European Studies

The following announcement will be of interest to students and colleagues of German or American citizenship.

The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) AICGS Research Fellowship Program

The Institute is pleased to announce that it is now taking applications

for the new AICGS Research Fellowship Program, funded by a generous grant from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), which is designed to bring scholars and specialists working on Germany, Europe, and/or

transatlantic relations to AICGS for stays of 1-3 months. Fellowships include a monthly stipend of $4,600, a monthly research budget of $250, economy class round trip airfare to and from Washington, and office space at the Institute. AICGS Research Fellows will be expected to produce a short publication, along the lines of a working paper or report, for

dissemination under Institute auspices; for research output of exceptional quality and interest, AICGS will provide opportunities for public

presentations to the broader Washington policy community.

Special consideration will be given to project proposals that address one or more of the research areas currently given emphasis by the institute:

transatlantic economic relations; enlargement of the European Union;

security issues linking the United States, Germany, and Russia; the

evolution of the "New Economy" in the United States and Germany; migration policy; and cultural or value conflicts between America and

Germany/Europe.

Applicants must be of German or American nationality, and should submit the following items: (1) a curriculum vitæ; (2) a project proposal

(5-7 pages); and (3) two letters of reference (for graduate students and recent Ph.D.s only). Applications will be evaluated in-house and on a rolling basis, with preference given to applicants who are interested in completing their research stays at AICGS prior to February 2002.
