PROSPECTUS
THE RÄMÄYANA.
It haring been repreiented to me that there is a great demand
among the learned Hindus of India, for the Rämäyana in the
Original Sanskrit language, and tbe price of the Editions which
bave been published in Enrope, being so high as to place them
beyond tbe reach of any, but the very rich, and they being moreover
incomplete, I am induced to propose to bring out an Edition
which, while being carefully edited, prioted with good type on
good paper, and altogether creditably got up, it will be possible
to sell for a moderate price. As, however, the expenses of pu¬
blishing so large a work, will be very great, this prospectus is
circulated to enable tbe publisher to estimate, before commencing
upon it, tbe probabilities of the work meeting with a ready sale,
and also to ensure him, at least, a portion of his outlay.
The learned Principal of the Sanskrit College Pandita Eshwar^
Chandra Vidyä Sägara with the assistance of tbe Panditaa of the
College of Fort William, bas kindly offered to undertake the
editorial duties of the work. Several accurate and clearly written
M. SS. are available; besides which the editors will have the ad¬
vantage of tbe editions already published, and no pains will be
spared by them, to make the work in every way worthy of
patronage.
it is proposed to publish the work in 8 volumes. Each
volume will contain about 300 pages 8vo. and tbe price to Sub¬
scribers will be Rupees 2-8 per volume, payable on delivery.
To Non-Subscribers, the price will be Rupees 4 per volume.
