Einleitung.

Arn B e g i n n des z w e i t e n S e m e s t e r s 1892 w a n d t e ich m i c h a n H e r r n P r o f e s s o r D r . ß . K ö r b e r m i t der B i t t e , m i r a u s s e i n e m g e r i c h t s ä r z t l i c h e n I n s t i t u t e M a t e r i a l zu e i n e r I n a u g u r a l d i s s e r t a t i o n zur V e r f ü g u n g stellen zu w o l l e n . H e r r P r o f e s s o r K ö r b e r w i l l f a h r t e m e i n e r B i t t e in l i e b e n s w ü r d i g s t e r W e i s e u n d s c h l u g m i r vor, eine B e a r b e i t u n g der w ä h r e n d seiner L e h r t ä t i g k e i t an der D o r p a t e r U n i v e r s i t ä t secirten V e r g i f t u n g s fälle v o r z u n e h m e n ; d a n k e n d ü b e r n a h m ich dieses T h e m a , o b gleich ich m i r w o h l b e w u s s t w a r , dass dieser Z w e i g der g e r i c h t l i c h e n M e d i c i n bereits viele u n d ausgezeichnete B e a r b e i t e r g e f u n d e n h a t . N i c h t s d e s t o w e n i g e r sind j e d o c h die A c t e n d a r ü b e r n o c h l a n g e n i c h t geschlossen, n o c h h e u t e ist die L e h r e v o n d e n V e r g i f t u n g e n trotz der g r o s s e n F o r t s c h r i t t e der C h e m i e u n d P h y s i o l o g i e der s c h w i e r i g s t e T h e i l d e r g e r i c h t l i c h e n M e dicin ; es k a n n d a h e r w e g e n der g r o s s e n B e d e u t u n g dieses Z w e i g e s d e r forensischen Medicin für d e n G e r i c h t s a r z t j e d e r w e i t e r e diesbezügliche B e i t r a g , u n d sei er noch so g e r i n g , z u r F ö r d e r u n g dieses G e g e n s t a n d e s n u r e r w ü n s c h t sein.

D i e Z a h l der V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e , die v o m J a h r e 1 8 7 9 - 1 8 9 2 i n c l u s i v e v o m H e r r n P r o f e s s o r K ö r b e r i m g e r i c h t s ä r z t l i c h e n I n s t i t u t e o b d u c i r t w o r d e n sind, belicf sich, a b g e s e h e n v o n A l - c o h o l v e r g i f t u n g e n , w e l c h e in 30 F ä l l e n v o r l a g e n u n d die ich jedoch a u s s c h l i e s s c n m ö c h t e , auf 52 F ä l l e . D i e s e Z a h l w a r s e l b s t v e r s t ä n d l i c h n i c h t hoch g e n u g , u m e i n e r s t a t i s t i s c h e n A r b e i t zu G r u n d e g e l e g t w e r d e n zu k ö n n e n u m so w e n i g e r , als diese 52 F ä l l e sich auf 16 G i f t e , die zur A n w e n d u n g k a m e n , " v e r t h e i l t e n . A u f A n r a t h e n des H e r r n Prof. K ö r b e r e n t s c h l o s s ich m i c h , das M a t e r i a l d u r c h H i n z u z i e h i m g a n d e r w e i t i g e r F ä l l e zu v e r g r ö s s e r n . D e m H e r r n l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e - dicinalinspector, D r . m e d . M a l i n i n u n d d e m H e r r n D r . m e d . C. L a n g e , w e i l a n d s t e l l v e r t r e t e n d e m Medicinalinspector, sage ich für das m i r zu diesem Z w e c k e i n l i e b e n s w ü r d i g s t e r W e i s e

ü b e r l a s s e n e A r c h i v der l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e d i c i n a l b c h ö r d e m e i n e n b e s t e n D a n k . I c h s a m m e l t e daselbst e t w a 1(50 F ä l l e , die sich a u f die v e r s c h i e d e n s t e n V e r g i f t u n g s a r t e n , die ich sjta.tcrh.in a n f ü h r e n werde, b e z i e h e n ; da es jedoch w e i t d e n R a h m e n e i n e r I n a u g i i r a l a b h a n d l i m g ü b e r s c h r e i t e n w ü r d e , w e n n ich all' die V e r g i f t u n g e n , die ich n o t i r t , j e t z t veröffentlichen w o l l t e , so h a b e ich d a v o n a b g e s e h e n u n d m i c h entschlossen, m i r v i e r V e r g i f t u n g s a r t e n u n d z w a r die in u n s e r e r G e g e n d a m h ä u figsten v o r k o m m e n d e n — n ä m l i c h P h o s p h o r - , K o h l e n o x y d - , S t r y c h n i n - u n d S c h w e f e l s ä u r e - V e r g i f t u n g e n in v o r l i e g e n d e r A r b e i t zu b e r ü c k s i c h t i g e n .

I n d e r n u n folgenden A b h a n d l u n g w e r d e ich wohl k a u m viel N e u e s zu b i e t e n im S t a n d e s e i n ; es l i e g t lediglich i n m e i n e r A b s i c h t , das b e r e i t s ü b e r die zu b e h a n d e l n d e n v i e r V e r g i f t u n g e n B e k a n n t e an der H a n d des b e o b a c h t e t e n M a t e r i a l s d u r c h z u g e h e n , bezw. zu b e s t ä t i g e n u n d e v e n t u e l l e A b w e i c h u n g e n zu n o t i r e n . Z u g l e i c h w e r d e ich in m e i n e r A r b e i t die a n a m n e s t i s c h e n Notizen u n d die M o t i v e , so w e i t dieselben zu e r u i r e n w a r e n , u n d den c h e m i s c h e n N a c h w e i s b e r ü c k s i c h t i gen

Ich w e n d e mich n u n m e i n e m e i g e n t l i c h e n T h e m a zu.

W i e g e s a g t , die A u f g a b e , die m i r v o m H e r r n P r o f e s s o r D r . K ö r b e r gestellt w u r d e , g i n g dahin, dass ich an d e r H a n d des m i r in D o r p a t u n d i n d e r l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M c d i c i n a l b c h ö r d e zu R i g a z u r V e r f ü g u n g g e s t e l l t e n g e r i c h t s ä r z t l i c h e n M a t e r i a l s die S e c t i o n s p r o t o c o l l e d e r in F o l g e einer V e r g i f t u n g G e s t o r b e n e n sichten, diejenigen Befunde, die für eine b e s t i m m t e V e r g i f t u n s a r t als beweisend a n g e n o m m e n w u r d e n , b e l e u c h t e n u n d e v e n t u e l l e A b w e i c h u n g e n h e r v o r h e b e n sollte. Z u g l e i c h w e r d e ich auch, w i e b e r e i t s a n g e f ü h r t , die a n a m n e s t i s c h e n N o t i z e n u n d die M o t i v e , die zur V e r g i f t u n g V e r a n l a s s u n g g a b e n , u n d d e n c h e m i s c h e n N a c h w e i s des Giftes b e r ü c k s i c h t i g e n .

W ä h r e n d der Zeit v o m J a n u a r 1882 (ich b e g i n n e m i t d e m J a h r e 1882, da ich i n R i g a e r s t v o m J a h r e 1882 ab die P r o t o c o l l e stiidirt h a b e ) bis z u m D e c e m b e r 1892 k a m e n ü b e r h a u p t 667 F ä l l e i m h i e s i g e n g e r i c h t s ä r z t l i c h e n I n s t i t u t e z u r S e c t i o n , 428 kreispolizeiliche, 239 stadtpolizeiliche, also circa 6 0 L e i c h e n im V e r l a u f e eines J a h r e s . U n t e r diesen F ä l l e n w a r e n e t w a 50 F ä l l e , bei d e n e n die D i a g n o s e T o d d u r c h Gift g e s t e l l t w u r d e ; ich sehe dabei von den A l c o h o l v e r g i f t u n g e n ab, d e r e n Z a h l 30 b e t r ä g t . D i e s e 50 V e r g i f t u n g e n v e r t h e i l e n sich auf e i n e n Z e i t r a u m v o n 11 J a h r e n , sodass im D u r c h s c h n i t t e t w a 4—5 V e r g i f t u n g e n j ä h r l i c h in D o r p a t u n d i m D ö r p t s c h e n K r e i s e v o r k a m e n .

W a s die einzelnen Gifte betrifft, so sind h i e r die v e r s c h i e d e n s t e n zu n o t i r e n . D i e e r s t e S t e l l e i n d e r H ä u f i g k e i t s - scala n i m m t d e r Tod in F o l g e d e r E i n w i r k u n g v o n K o h l c n - o x y d e i n ; die Z a h l der F ä l l e b e t r ä g t 11 ; die zweite S t e l l e m u s s der S c h w e f e l s ä u r e e i n g e r ä u m t w e r d e n , die 9 Opfer v e r l a n g t e ; n ä c h s t diesem Gifte p r ä v a l i r e n in gleicher S t ä r k e P h o s p h o r , ' , S t r y c h n i n , A r s e n u n d C y a n k a l i u m m i t j e 4 F ä l l e n ; das w a r e n die a m häufigsten v o r k o m m e n d e n V e r g i f t u n g s a r t e n . D i e Gifte, die in n u r ganz v e r e i n z e l t e n F ä l l e n zur A n w e n d u n g g e l a n g t e n , g e h ö r e n den v e r s c h i e d e n s t e n K l a s s e n d e r Gifte a n ; K u p f e r s u l f a t , O p i u m , E s s i g s ä u r e , Chloral, B a r i u m -

c a r b o n a t u n d Chloroform sind m i t j o einem V e r t r e t e r v e r z e i c h n e t ; a u s s e r d e m k a m e n 2 C a r b o l s ä u r e - u n d 3 M o r p h i u m v e r g i f t u n g e n v o r . A u c h eine S o l a n i n v e r g i f t u n g ist von H e r r n Prof. K ö r b c r c o n s t a t i r t w o r d e n ; dieselbe i s t n a c h dem G e n u s s r o h e r Kartoffeln e n t s t a n d e n . H e r r Prof. K ö r b e r h a t s e i n e r Z e i t diese i n t e r e s s a n t e V e r g i f t u n g b e r e i t s veröffentlicht.

F o l g e n d e V e r h ä l t n i s s e k o n n t e ich in R i g a beim S i c h t e n des M a t e r i a l s d e r l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e d i c i n a l b e h ö r d e c o n s t a t i r e n ; d o r t w a r e n K o h l e n o x y d , P h o s p h o r , S t r y c h n i n u n d S c h w e f e l s ä u r e diejenigen Gifte, w e l c h e am m e i s t e n i n A n w e n d u n g g e k o m m e n w a r e n . I c h n o t i r t e daselbst 100 F ä l l e ; diese g e r i n g e Z a h l wird wohl d e m L e s e r auffallen u n d in d e r T h a t m a c h t sie auch k a u m d e n E i n d r u c k d e r W a h r s c h e i n l i c h k e i t , denn es i s t j a n i c h t a n z u n e h m e n , dass w ä h r e n d e i n e s Z e i t r a u m e s v o n 10 J a h r e n i m g a n z e n l i v l ä n d i s c h e n G o u v e r n e m e n t n u r 160 V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e z u r O b d u c t i o u g e l a n g t sind. A l s ich m i c h n a c h R i g a z u r S i c h t u n g des M a t e r i a l s b e g a b , w a r ich d e r b e r e c h t i g t e n A n s i c h t , dass ich in d e r B e h ö r d e alle V e r g i f t u n g s fälle, die im L a u f e v o n 10 J a h r e n i m G o u v e r n e m e n t L i v l a n d ü b e r h a u p t v o r g e k o m m e n w a r e n , zu G e s i c h t e b e k o m m e n w e r d e , d e n n l a u t Vorschrift ist j a j e d e r K r e i s - r e s p . S t a d t a r z t v e r pflichtet, j e d e n v o r k o m m e n d e n V e r g i f t u n g s f a l l d e r M e d i c i n a l b e h ö r d e a n z u z e i g e n u n d d e r s e l b e n die v o r g e s c h r i e b e n e n L e i c h e n - t h e i l e z u m Z w e c k e d e r A u s f ü h r u n g d e r c h e m i s c h e n A n a l y s e zu ü b e r m i t t e l n . D i e s e r V o r s c h r i f t i s t v o n S e i t e n d e r H e r r e n K r e i s - r e s p . S t a d t ä r z t e o h n e Zweifel G e n ü g e g e t h a n w o r d e n . D e r G r u n d , dass ich n u r eine r e l a t i v g e r i n g e A n z a h l v o n V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e n c o n s t a t i r e n k o n n t e , liegt v i e l m e h r i n d e r T h a t s a c h e , dass s e h r viele P r o t o c o l l e n e b s t G u t a c h t e n i n d e n H ä n d e n d e r R i c h t e r z u r ü c k b l e i b e n . D i e s e r G r u n d w u r d e m i r v o n e i n e m B e a m t e n a n g e g e b e n , d e r auf m e i n e diesbezügliche F r a g e m i c h auf diese T h a t s a c h e h i n w i e s . I c h b e d a u e r e sehr, dass es m i r a u s diesem G r u n d e n i c h t g e l u n g e n ist, ein a l l g e m e i n e s Bild ü b e r die Z a h l d e r Vergiftungsfälle, die in g a n z L i v l a n d i m L a u f e d e r 10 J a h r e v o r g e k o m m e n sind u n d m i t d e m Tode e n d e t e n , zu g e w i n n e n ; solch eine s t a t i s t i s c h e Z a h l w ä r e h ö c h s t i n t e r e s s a n t . D a g e g e n ist es m i r g e l u n g e n , die Z a h l d e r V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e , die i n die B e h a n d l u n g d e r einzelnon A e r z t e L i v l a n d s g e l a n g t e n , zu c o n s t a t i r e n .

I n d e m a l l g e m e i n e n R e c h e n s c h a f t s b e r i c h t d. h. i n d e m B e r i c h t e , d e r auf G r u n d d e r j ä h r l i c h e n M i t t h e i l u n g e n d e r K r e i s - u n d S t a d t ä r z t e L i v l a n d s j ä h r l i c h a u s g e a r b e i t e t w i r d , t a n d ich die diesbezüglichen D a t e n . I n diesen B e r i c h t e n w i r d das H a u p t g e w i c h t d a r a u f gelegt, i m A l l g e n i e i n e n die Z a h l d e r K r a n k h e i t s f ä l l e zu b e s t i m m e n , die i m L a u f e des B e o b a c h t u n g s j a h r e s in B e h a n d l u n g d e r freipracticirenden A e r z t e k a m e n , als a u c h a m b u l a t o r i s c h r e s p . s t a t i o n ä r i n d e n K r a n k e n h ä u s e r n b e h a n d e l t w u r d e n . I n einer b e s o n d e r e n A b t h e i l u n g eines

solchen B e r i c h t e s fand ich eine a l l g e m e i n e U e b e r s i c h t ü b e r die Z a b l der i m B e o b a c h t u n g s j a h r e v o r g e k o m m e n e n V e r g i f t u n g e n . W i e v i e l e von den a n g e f ü h r t e n F ä l l e n m i t d e m T o d e r e s p . wieviele m i t G e n e s u n g e n d e t e n , e n t z o g sich leider der B e o b a c h t u n g .

I c h e r s a h a u s den B e r i c h t e n , dass im L a u f e von 10 J a h r e n im G o u v e r n e m e n t L i v l a n d i n g e r a d e r Z a h l e t w a

1,700,000 E r k r a n k u n g s f ä l l o v o r g e k o m m e n sind. F ü r die ein

zelnen J a h r e des b e o b a c h t e t e n Z e i t r a u m s fand ich folgende Z a h l e n a n g e g e b e n :

'280 d a r u n t e r an Alcohol . . . . 169 für das J a h r 1891 habe ich die betreffende Zahl nicht finden k ö n n e n ; ich n e h m e u n g e f ä h r an, dass die Z a h l m i n d e s t e n s 400 b e t r ä g t . S o m i t sind im L a u f e von 10 J a h r e n e t w a 1077, also ca.

2000 Vergiftungsfälle in B e h a n d l u n g d e r A e r z t e L i v l a n d s g e l a n g t . W i r h a b e n gefunden, dass im L a u f e von zehn J a h r e n 1,700,000 E r k r a n k u n g s f ä l l e ü b e r h a u p t u n d 2000 V e r g i f t u n g s fälle im G o u v e r n e m e n t L i v l a n d von den A e r z t e n b e h a n d e l t w o r d e n s i n d ; es e r g i e b t sich somit, dass u n t e r 1700 E r k r a n k u n g s f ä l l e n ü b e r h a u p t 2 Vergiftuugsfälle k a m e n . I c h b e t o n e , dass diese Z a h l e n k e i n e a b s o l u t e , s o n d e r n n u r r e l a t i v e s i n d ; d e n n es u n t e r l i e g t k e i n e m Zweifel, dass die Zahl der E r k r a n k u n g s f ä l l e ü b e r h a u p t als auch die der Vergiftungsfälle in W i r k l i c h k e i t eine w e i t grössere g e w e s e n sein w i r d . I m m e r h i n g e s t a t t e t u n s das r e l a t i v e Z a h l e n v e r h ä l t n i s s R ü c k s c h l ü s s e zu m a c h e n . W i r e r s e h e n a u s der- Z u s a m m e n s t e l l u n g , dass die Zahl der Vergiftungsfälle von J a h r e zu J a h r u n a u f h a l t s a m steigt. I m e r s t e n B e o b a c h t u n g s j a h r e w u r d e n n u r 25 Vergiftungsfälle con

s t a t i r t ; von da ab s t e i g t die Zahl i m m e r h ö h e r u n d höher, bis sie im l e t z t e n B e o b a c h t u n g s j a h r e 400 beträgt-'; nach V e r l a u f v o n zehn Jaln-en h a t sich also die Z a h l d e r V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e um 16 Mal v e r m e h r t . N u r in e i u e m J a h r , n ä m l i c h im J a h r e 1884 h a b e n w i r k e i n S t e i g e n der F r e q u e n z b e o b a c h t e t ; h i e r b l e i b t die Z a h l d e r V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e der des v o r h e r g e h e n d e n

J a h r e s gleich. , Diese ernste. E r s c h e i n u n g des b e s t ä n d i g e n S t e i g e n s d e r

Vergiftungsfälle h a b e n w i r leider ü b e r a l l zu. c o n s t a t i r e n ; in allen L ä n d e r n n i m m t m i t j e d e m J a h r e die Z a h l . d e r Vergif

t u n g e n zu. I n P r e u s s e n h a t nach F . A F a l k¹) seit d e m J a h r e 1869 die B e n u t z u n g v o n Giften z u m S e l b s t m o r d r e s p . Mord s e h r z u g e n o m m e n . D i e s e T h a t s a c h e lässt, sich w o h l o h n e W e i t e r e s d u r c h die weite V e r b r e i t u n g d e r Gifte, die zu d e n v e r s c h i e d e n s t e n Z w e c k e n A u w e n d u n g finden, e r k l ä r e n . H i e r a u s g e h t die e r n s t e M a h n u n g h e r v o r , die Z ü g ä n g i g k e i t v o n Giften m e h r als bisher zu e r s c h w e r e n .

I c h w e n d e mich n u n zur speciellen B e t r a c h t u n g d e r Gifte u n d b e g i n n e m i t der V e r g i f t u n g d u r c h P h o s p h o r .

„ D e r P h o s p h o r h a t in n e u e r e r Zeit allen a n d e r e n Giften den R a n g a b g e l a u f e n ; s e h r n a t ü r l i c h , w e i l er in d e r F o r m der Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n in j e d e r B e h a u s u n g zu finden ist, sodass es n i c h t

e i n m a l m e h r der L i s t bedarf, n m sich das Gift in der F o r m der R a t t e n p a s t e zu verschaffen, u n d weil die sicheren W i r k u n g e n des Giftes auch in k l e i n e n G a b e n von Z ü n d h o l z k u p p e n , die o b e n d r e i n so g u t wie n i c h t s k o s t e n , ganz a l l g e m e i n b e k a n n t g e w o r d e n sind. D o c h wird auch dieser von h u n g e r i g e n , n a m e n t l i c h ä r m e r e n L e u t e n ü b e r w u n d e n , die i h r e Speise, auch w e n n i h n e n

„ S c h w e f e l " d a r i n auffällt, g e m e s s e n , w i e die E r f a h r u n g n u n schon häufig g e l e h r t hat. N i c h t m i n d e r k o m m e n zufällige

V e r g i f t u n g e n m i t P h o s p h o r , n a m e n t l i c h bei K i n d e r n v o r .^{f f} So k o n n t e C a s p e r ') m i t v o l l s t e m R e c h t e v o r e t w a drei D e c e n n i e n schreiben. S e i t d e m h a t die F r e q u e n z der P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g e n , m e i n t L i m a n ,²) s t e t i g a b g e n o m m e n . L i m a n f ü h r t als B e l e g dafür die V e r h ä l t n i s s e in B e r l i n a n , wo in den J a h r e n 1876—1878 incl. n u r 5 P h o s p h o r l e i c h e n u n t e r 206 V e r giftungen ü b e r h a u p t im g e r i c h t s ä r z t l i c h e n I n s t i t u t e v o r g e k o m m e n sind.

I c h m e i n e , dass die B e h a u p t u n g L i m a n s h ö c h s t e n s n u r für D e u t s c h l a n d r e s p . B e r l i n zutreffend s e i ; für D o r p a t u n d R i g a trifft sie o h n e Zweifel n i c h t zu. U n t e r den 5 2 + 1 6 0 v o n m i r b e o b a c h t e t e n V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e n h a b e ich am"" häufigsten V e r g i f t u n g e n d u r c h P h o s p h o r cottstatiren k ö n n e n , sodass ich der A n s i c h t bin, dass P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g e n noch r e c h t häufig v o r k o m m e n . A u c h K o b e r t³) m e i n t , dass V e r g i f t u n g e n m i t P h o s p h o r in j e d e r B e z i e h n n g an H ä u f i g k e i t g e g e n f r ü h e r e J a h r z e h n t e s e h r z u g e n o m m e n h a b e n . E s ist m i r g e r a d e z u beim S i c h t e n des M a t e r i a l s d e r l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e d i c i n a i b e b ö r d e aufgefallen, sovielen P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g e n zu b e g e g n e n , d e r e n Z a h l sich auf e t w a 40 F ä l l e e r s t r e c k t e . D i e s e T h ä t s a c h e s c h e i n t offenbar m i t der leider noch i m m e r ganz a l l g e m e i n e n V e r b r e i t u n g d e r P h o s p h o r z ü n d h ö l z c h e n z u s a m m e n z u h ä n g e n .

M a n u n t e r s c h e i d e t b e k a n n t l i c h d e n g e w ö h n l i c h e n , farb

D e r r o t h e oder a m o r p h e P h o s p h o r , j e n e allotrope Modification des g e w ö h n l i c h e n P h o s p h o r s , in die der letztere d u r c h l ä n g e r e s E r h i t z e n auf 250⁰ in e i n e r sauerstofffreien A t h m o s p h ä r o ü b e r g e h t u n d die sich c h e m i s c h so v e r s c h i e d e n v e r h ä l t , ist a u c h toxicologisch als unlösliche, s c h w e r v e r ä n d e r l i c h e S u b s t a n z nach O. N a s s e u n d J . N e u m a n n ') z w a r n i c h t absolut, aber für die P r a x i s

D i e h ä u t i g s t e n V e r g i f t u n g e n g e s c h e h e n m i t d e n K ö p f c h e n der P h o s p h o r z ü n d h ö k c h e n , die, da sie in jeder H a u s h a l t u n g sich finden, i m m e r z u r H a n d sind. I h r G e h a l t an P h o s p h o r ist s e h r v a r i a b e l ; d u r c h s c h n i t t l i c h b e t r ä g t d e r s e l b e bei d e r u r s p r ü n g l i c h e n Z ü n d m a s s e 6—7 p . Ct. u n d a u f 100 K u p p e n w e r d e n e t w a G—8 C e n t i g r m . P h o s p h o r b e r e c h n e t . D i e k l e i n s t e t ö d t l i c h e D o s e des P h o s p h o r s b e t r ä g t , w e n n e r g u t v e r t h e i l t oder gelöst i s t 0,05 g . ; wird er aber in g r o b e n K l u m p e n g e n o m m e n , so k ö n n e n s e l b s t viel g r ö s s e r e D o s e n o h n e t ö d t l i c h e W i r k u n g bleiben. A u f ein g e w ö h n l i c h e s Z ü n d h o l z k ö p f c h e n k o m m t e t w a 0,005 giftiger g e l b e r P h o s p h o r ; man e r s i e h t also d a r a u s , dass 10 Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n zur V e r g i f t u n g eines e r w a c h s e n e n M e n s c h e n e v e n t u e l l g e n ü g e n k ö n n e n . D e r a r t i g e F ä l l e sind j e d o c h bei E r w a c h s e n e n e m i n e n t s e l t e n zu b e o b a c h t e n ; sie k o m m e n fast nie v o r ; bei K i n d e r n h a b e n freilich w e i t g e r i n g e r e D o s e n d e n Tod h e r b e i g e f ü h r t . So e r h i e l t nach K e s s l e r ') ein sieben W o c h e n altes K i n d 0—7 Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n k ö p f c h e n ( m i t e t w a 8 m g r m . P h o s p h o r ) u n d s t a r b n a c h 3—4 S t u n d e n u n d S o n n e n s c h e i n²) b e r i c h t e t sogar v o n e i n e m fünf

w ö c h e n t l i c h e n K i n d e , das schon in F o l g e des V e r s c h l u c k e n s n u r eines einzigen Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n k ö p f c h e n s g e s t o r b e n sein soll.

B e i E r w a c h s e n e n sind d e r a r t i g e F ä l l e nicht, w i e gesagt, beob

a c h t e t w o r d e n ; h i e r h a n d e l t es sich g e w ö h n l i c h u m die Köpf

chen m i n d e s t e n s eines P ä c k c h e n s Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n zu 80—100 S t ü c k , w e l c h e eine tödtliche V e r g i f t u n g b e w i r k t e n . A u s s e r den Z ü n d h o l z k ö p f c h e n , die a u s e i n e m G e m e n g e v o n chlor- . s a u r e m K a l i oder von S a l p e t e r m i t B r a u n s t e i n , M e n n i g e , G u m m i u n d circa 1 0 ^ ' P h o s p h o r b e s t e h e n (der a b e r in m a n chen M i s c h u n g e n t h e i l w e i s e d u r c h a m o r p h e n P h o s p h o r e r s e t z t ist, da dieser e i n m a l e n t z ü n d e t , auch b r e n n t ) führen zu V e r g i f t u n g e n die besonders z u r V e r t i l g u n g der R a t t e n g e b r ä u c h liche P h o s p h o r p a s t e oder P h o s p h o r l a t w e r g e ( M e h l b r e i u. P h o s p h o r , auch w o h l m i t Zusatz v o n B u t t e r u n d Z u c k e r ) , s e l t e n L ö s u n g e n v o n P h o s p h o r i n O e l oder A e t h e r . I n f r ü h e r e n Z e i t e n e r e i g n e t e n sich V e r g i f t u n g s f ä l l e i n F o l g e der damals h ä u f i g e r e n A n w e n d u n g des O l e u m p h o s p h o r a t u m zu m e d i c i n i - schen t h e r a p e u t i s c h e n Z w e c k e n n i c h t s e l t e n ; a b e r a u c h h e u t e w e r d e n bei der j e t z t w i e d e r Mode g e w o r d e n e n B e h a n d l u n g d e r R a c h i t i s m i t d e m s e l b e n P r ä p a r a t e solche m e d i c i n a l e Vergif

t u n g e n v o r k o m m e n ; und in d e r T h a t h a b e n d e r a r t i g e t r a u e r i g e F ä l l e in der allerjüngston Zeit sich b e r e i t s e r e i g n e t . M e t i -

D i e O b d u c t i o n , d e r e n B e f u n d e n i c h t n ä h e r m i t g e t h e i l t w o r d e n sind, e r g a b P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g . E s w u r d e gegen M 61 i v i e r u n d g e g e n den A p o t h e k e r die A n k l a g e e r h o b e n . B e i d e w u r d e n j e d o c h freigesprochen, da eine ü e b e r s c h r c i t u n g der ü b l i c h e n

D o s e n n i c h t n a c h z u w e i s e n w a r .

A u c h L e o n p a c h c r²) b e r i c h t e t ü b e r e i n e n ä h n l i c h e n F a l l . E i n 17-jähriges m i t M e n s t r u a l c o l i k behaftetes M ä d c h e n h a t t e sich an e i n e n C u r p f u s c h e r g e w a n d t u n d v o n diesem eine n a c h Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n r i e c h e n d e u n d ekelhaft schmeckende) M e dicin e r h a l t e n , d u r c h drei T a g e g e n o m m e n u n d d a n n w e g g e s c h ü t t e t . A n dem W e g g e s c h ü t t e t e n w u r d e ein L e u c h t e n b e m e r k t . N a c h fünftägigem K r a n k e n l a g e r t r a t der Tod ein.

D i e k l i n i s c h e n E r s c h e i n u n g e n u n d d e r a n a t o m i s c h e B e f u n d e n t s p r a c h e n d e m Bilde der s u b a c u t e n P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g . I c h k ö n n t e noch m e h r e r e d e r a r t i g e B e i s p i e l e a n f ü h r e n . A u s d e m G r u n d e m u s s eine grosse V o r s i c h t b e i m V e r o r d n e n von P h o s p h o r o b w a l t e n ; j a dieses P r ä p a r a t , das oleum p h o s p h o r a t u m , m ü s s t e a u s dem A r z e n e i s c h a t z g e s t r i c h e n w e r d e n .

I n u n s e r e r Z u s a m m e n s t e l l u n g sind in allen F ä l l e n die K ö p f c h e n d e r P h o s p l i o r z ü n d h ö l z c h e n a n g e w a n d t w o r d e n ; n u r i n 2 F ä l l e n g e s c h a h die V e r g i f t u n g m i t P h o s p h o r b u t t e r . I n d e n m e i s t e n F ä l l e n h a n d e l t e es sich u m die K ö p f c h e n v o n m i n d e s t e n s 2 r e s p . 3 K ä s t c h e n Z ü n d h ö l z e r , die zur A n w e n d u n g k a m e n ; n u r ein einziges M a l w u r d e n die K ö p f c h e n von zehn K ä s t c h e n a n g e w a n d t .

A u s d e m m i r v o r l i e g e n d e n M a t e r i a l , w e l c h e s a u s 40 F ä l l e n bestand, h a b e ich die auch überall zu b e o b a c h t e n d e E r s c h e i n u n g n o t i r t , dass d e r P h o s p h o r a u s e i g e n e m A n t r i e b e z u m Z w e c k e des S e l b s t m o r d e s b e n u t z t w o r d e n ist. F a s t in e i n e m j e d e n einzelnen F a l l e k o n n t e die Schuldfrage n a c h g e w i e s e n

w e r d e n ; sie l a u t e t e stets — S e l b s t m o r d .

Bei d e r D u r c h s i c h t des M a t e r i a l s fiel m i r d a s M i s s v e r - h ä l t n i s s z w i s c h e n den b e i d e n G e s c h l e c h t e r n auf; die F r a u e n ü b e r w i e g e n u m das D r e i f a c h e a n Z a h l die M ä n n e r ; es k a m e n 30 F r a u e n auf 10 M ä n n e r . D i e s e auffallende E r s c h e i n u n g l ä s s t sich v i e l l e i c h t d a d u r c h e r k l ä r e n , dass l a u t s t a t i s t i s c h e n D a t e n die F r a u ü b e r h a u p t das Gift b e i m S e l b s t m o r d e b e v o r zugt, w i e sie a u c h b e i m M o r d es m i t V o r l i e b e a n w e n d e t . k e i t i s t n i c h t v o n d e r H a n d zu weisen, u m so w e n i g e r , als b e r e i t s viele F ä l l e in d e r L i t e r a t u r b e k a n n t g e w o r d e n sind, w o d e r P h o s p h o r zu F r u c h t a b t r e i b u n g s z w e c k e n g e m i s s b r a u c h t w o r d e n ist. S c h o n v o r l a n g e r Z e i t h a t in W i e n die u n v e r - h ä l t n i s s m ä s s i g e H ä u f i g k e i t der V e r g i f t u n g e n m i t P h o s p h o r , b e s o n d e r s m i t den K ö p f c h e n der P h o s p h o r z ü n d h ö l z c h e n , bei S c h w a n g e r e n den V e r d a c h t e r r e g t , dass diese S u b s t a n z i n m a n c h e n dieser F ä l l e als F r u c h t a b t r c i b u n g s m i t t e l g e n o m m e n w o r d e n sei. D i e s e r V e r d a c h t w u r d e zur G e w i s s h e i t d u r c h einen v o n K i r c h m e i e r¹) m i t g c t h e i l t e n F a l l , in w e l c h e m die betreffende V e r g i f t e t e alle Z e i c h e n eines A b o r t u s im d r i t t e n M o n a t e d a r b o t u n d v o r dem T o d e e i n g e s t a n d , dass sie i h r e r S c h w a n g e r s c h a f t w e g e n auf A n r a t h o n eines a l t e n W e i b e s die K ö p f c h e n von 3 P ä c k c h e n Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n , in Milch aufgekocht, g e n o m m e n habe ; ebenso a u c h d u r c h die im A n s c h l u s s an d i e sen B e r i c h t g e m a c h t e M i t t h e i l u n g D r . L a n g e r s²] , dass b i n n e n J a h r e s f r i s t i n d e m s e l b e n B e z i r k e 4 F ä l l e von F r u c h t a b t r e i b u n g zur K e n n t n i s s des G e r i c h t e s g e l a n g t e n , wobei 2 M a l Schwefelarsen u n d je 1 Mal S a b i n a d e c o c t u n d P h o s p h o r v e r w a n d t w o r d e n w a r e n .

E s u n t e r l i e g t k e i n e m Zweifel, dass P h o s p h o r t h a t s ä c h l i c h A b o r t u s b e w i r k e n k a n n . M a s c h k a³) b e r i c h t e t ü b e r e i n e n F a l l , i n dem schon n a c h 4S S t u n d e n A b o r t e i n t r a t , w o b e i H a e m o r r h a g i e e n z w i s c h e n die E i h ä u t e , sowie zwischen E i u n d U t e r u s eine w e s e n t l i c h e R o l l e zu spielen scheinen.

A u c h ich bin in der L a g e , die n a c h dieser R i c h t u n g h i n i n der L i t e r a t u r b e k a n n t g e w o r d e n e n F ä l l e u m m e h r e r e zu b e r e i c h e r n ; ich k o n n t e u n t e r den 30 F ä l l e n , die das weibliche G e s c h l e c h t betrafen, in 7 F ä l l e n m i t a b s o l u t e r S i c h e r h e i t den N a c h w e i s liefern, dass der P h o s p h o r hier zum Z w e c k e der F r u c h t a b t r e i b u n g a n g e w a n d t w o r d e n ist. I n e i n e m F a l l e er

schien D e f u n c t a , 24 a. n. u n g e f ä h r eine W o c h e v o r i h r e m T o d e bei e i n e m A r z t u n d bat i h n u m ein A b o r t i v u m ; s e l b s t v e r s t ä n d l i c h l e i s t e t e er i h r e r B i t t e k e i n e F o l g e ; sie bat i h n flehent

l i c h s t u n d s a g t e i h m s c h l i e s s l i c h , sie wisse selbst ein M i t t e l , das sie a n w e n d e n w ü r d e , falls er i h r k e i n e s verabfolge. E i n e s T a g e s w u r d e der betreffende A r z t zu ihr g e h o l t ; er fand sie m i t k a l t e n E x t r e m i t ä t e n , v o n f u r c h t b a r e n S c h m e r z e n , häufi

g e m E r b r e c h e n b l u t i g e n S c h l e i m e s g e q u ä l t ; d e r P u l s 1 2 0 ; P u p i l l e n e r w e i t e r t , r e a g i r t e n t r ä g e . I n d e n ü b r i g e n 6 F ä l l e n g e s t a n d e n die Betreffenden v o r i h r e m T o d e ein, d e n P h o s p h o r zu F r u c h t a b t r e i b u n g s z w e c k e n g e b r a u c h t zu h a b e n . O b n i c h t a u c h i n e i n i g e n der ü b r i g b l e i b e n d e n 2 3 F ä l l e ein d e r a r t i g e s M o m e n t z u r S p r a c h e k o m m t , lasse ich d a h i n g e s t e l l t s e i n ; ich h a b e n a c h dieser R i c h t u n g h i n a u s d e n A c t e n N i c h t s e r s e h e n k ö n n e n .

W a s das A l t e r d e r S e l b s t m ö r d e r betrifft, so g e h ö r t e d a s selbe d e m besten M a n n e s a l t e r u n d z u m T h c i l d e m G r e i s e n a l t e r a n ; 2 G r e i s e im A l t e r v o n 60 J a h r e n v e r g i f t e t e n sich m i t e i n e r P h o s p h o r l ö s u n g ; die ü b r i g e n s t a n d e n i m A l t e r z w i s c h e n 25—40 J a h r e n . D i e w e i b l i c h e n I n d i v i d u e n g e h ö r t e n ausschliesslich d e m b e s t e n L e b e n s a l t e r a n ; das A l t e r s c h w a n k t e in 2 9 F ä l l e n z w i s c h e n 16 u n d 28 J a h r e n ; n u r i n e i n e m F a l l e h a n d e l t e es sich u m eine 4 0 - j ä h r i g e W i t t w e . D a s j u g e n d l i c h e A l t e r der S e l b s t m ö r d e r i n n e n b e k r ä f t i g t m i c h i n d e r A n n a h m e , d a s s o h n e Zweifel in m e h r als den e r w ä h n t e n 7 F ä l l e n d e r P h o s p h o r zu F r u c h t a b t r e i b u n g s z w e c k e n b e n u t z t w o r d e n ist.

I n d e n von m i r n o t i r t e n F ä l l e n w a r es k e i n e m s c h w a n g e r e n F r a u e n z i m m e r g e l u n g e n , d e n b e a b s i c h t i g t e n Z w e c k zu e r r e i c h e n ; es t r a t k e i n A b o r t e i n ; alle m u s s t e n v i e l m e h r i h r V e r b r e c h e n m i t d e m Tode bezahlen.

D i e s e e r n s t e T h a t s a c h e m u s s b e o b a c h t e t w e r d e n . E i n J e d e r m u s s dazu b e i t r a g e n , d e r falschen A n s i c h t , die n a m e n t lich b e i m V o l k e h e r r s c h t , als sei P h o s p h o r ein sicheres A b o r t i v m i t t e l zu s t e u e r n ; n u r d a d u r c h k ö n n t e n diese t r a u r i g e n Z u fälle b e s e i t i g t w e r d e n .

W a s die K r a n k h e i t s d a u e r r e s p . die Zeit des E i n t r i t t ' s des T o d e s betrifft, so w a r ein a c u t e r V e r l a u f ü b e r a u s s e l t e n zu b e o b a c h t e n ; n u r in zwei F ä l l e n t r a t d e r T o d u n g e m e i n r a p i d u n d z w a r i n e i n e m F a l l e z w i s c h e n 3 — 4 S t u n d o n , i m a n d e r e n n a c h 9 S t u n d e n ein. Solch' ein a c u t e r V e r l a u f i s t bei E r w a c h s e n e n v e r h ä l t n i s s m ä s s i g ü b e r a u s selten zu b e o b a c h t e n ; jedoch sind d e r a r t i g e r a s c h v e r l a u f e n d e F ä l l e in der L i t e r a t u r

b e k a n n t . I n d e m e i n e n F a l l e w a r d e r Tod 7 bis 8 S t u n d e n , i m z w e i t e n (10 P ä c k c h e n Z ü n d h ö l z c h e n ) nach 8 S t u n d e n u n d im d r i t t e n ebenfalls n a c h 8 S t u n d e n e i n g e t r e t e n . I n allen drei F ä l l e n w u r d e b e s o n d e r s im D a r m P h o s p h o r n a c h g e w i e s e n , s o n s t n u r b e g i n n e n d e fettige D e g e n e r a t i o n d e r L e b e r u n d der N i e r e n u n d in zweien a u c h dos H e r z e n s gefunden, s o n s t k e i n e g r ö b e r e a n a t o m i s c h e V e r ä n d e r u n g . M a s c h k a e r k l ä r t sich den raschen Tod a u s d e r g r ö s s e r e n M e n g e des g e n o m m e n e n P h o s p h o r s .

D a s s die M e n g e des v e r s c h l u c k t e n P h o s p h o r s auf die Z e i t des e i n t r e t e n d e n T o d e s e i n e n Einfluss a u s ü b t , v e r s t e h t sich v o n s e l b s t ; j e d o c h n i c h t in allen F ä l l e n h e r r s c h t ein d e r a r t i g e r P a r a l l e l i s m u s z w i s c h e n diesen zwei M o m e n t e n , wofür d e r F a l l I I I der veröffentlichten casuistischen F ä l l e ein l e h r r e i c h e s B e i s p i e l l i e f e r t ; h i e r v e r s c h l u c k t e das I n d i v i d u u m die K ö p f c h e n von zehn K ä s t c h e n Z ü n d h ö l z e r u n d v e r s c h i e d d e n n o c h e r s t a m 6. T a g e . W i r m ü s s e n d a r a u s den S c h l u s s ziehen, dass sicher

lich noch a n d e r e M o m e n t e dabei eine R o l l e spielen ; w e l c h e r A r t sie sind, w i s s e n w i r jedoch im A u g e n b l i c k n i c h t ; vorläufig b l e i b t n u r ü b r i g , a u f eine v e r s c h i e d e n e D i s p o s i t i o n s f ä h i g k e i t zu r e c u r r i r e n . I n den ü b r i g e n 3 8 F ä l l e n w a r ein so a c u t e r V e r l a u f n i c h t zu b e o b a c h t e n ; hier t r a t der e x i t u s letalis d u r c h s c h n i t t l i c h z w i s c h e n dem d r i t t e n u n d s i e b e n t e n T a g e ein ; n u r i n e i n e m F a l l e erfolgte d e r Tod e r s t a m 11. T a g e . E i n solcher V e r l a u f ist als d e r g e w ö h n l i c h e zu bezeichnen, d e n n ü b e r a l l sind dieselben B e o b a c h t u n g e n g e m a c h t w o r d e n .

I c h k o m m e jetzt zum p a t h o l o g i s c h e n Befund u n d b e t o n e v o n v o r n h e r e i n , dass d e r s e l b e D a n k dem U m s t ä n d e , dass der Tod fast i n allen F ä l l e n e r s t zwischen 3 u n d 7 T a g e n e i n t r a t , ein s e h r c h a r a c t e r i s t i s c h e r w a r , d e n n der L e i c h e n b e f u n d h ä n g t w e s e n t l i c h von d e r D a u e r d e r d u r c h die V e r g i f t u n g v e r a n lassten E r k r a n k u n g a b ; derselbe i s t v e r s c h i e d e n , j e n a c h d e m der T o d in w e n i g e n S t u n d e n oder e r s t nach T a g e n e i n t r a t . I n den acut m i t dem T o d e e n d e n d e n F ä l l e n fehlen die an der L e i c h e so c h a r a c t e r i s t i s c h e n E r s c h e i n u n g e n i n den O r g a n e n ; es p r a e v a l i r e n die ö r t l i c h e n E r s c h e i n u n g e n i m M a g e n , w e l c h e j e d o c h so g e r i n g f ü g i g e r N a t u r sein k ö n n e n , wie einfache l n j e c t i o n s r ö t h e u. s. w., dass m a n an N i c h t s w e n i g e r als a n e i n e s t a t t g e h a b t e P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g d e n k t . I n d e n zwei von u n s n o t i r t e n a c u t e n F ä l l e n w a r jedoch, w e n n a u c h der B e f u n d n i c h t s Specifisches an sich h a t t e , die D i a g n o s e eine l e i c h t e ; in beiden F ä l l e n w a r ein d e u t l i c h e r P h o s p h o r g e r u c h a u s d e m M u n d e w a h r n e h m b a r ; b e i m Oeffnen der B a u c h h ö h l e fand sich ein a u s g e s p r o c h e n e r P h o s p h o r g e r u c h des M a g e n s r e s p .

I n d e m einen der in k u r z e r Zeit letal e n d e n d e n F ä l l e w a r der M a g e n a u f g e t r i e b e n ; a m fundus w a r e n viele d u n k e l r o t h e B l u t a u s t r i t t e v o r h a n d e n ; die S c h l e i m h a u t des M a g e n s an einzelnen S t c l l o n v o l l s t ä n d i g v e r n i c h t e t ; an a n d e r e n S t e l l e n zerfiel sie l e i c h t ; d e r I n h a l t — eine t r ü b e F l ü s s i g k e i t m i t P h o s p h o r g e r u c h ; D ü n n - u n d D i c k d a r m n o r m a l ; die L e b e r von n o r m a l e r G r ö s s e , s e h r b l u t r e i c h ; auch im U c b r i g e n bot die Scction n i c h t s A b n o r m e s dar. I n dem zweiten nach 9 S t u n d e n tödtlich v o r l a u fenden F a l l e w a r ebenfalls P h o s p h o r g e r u c h des Magens d e u t l i c h c o u s t a t i r b a r ; der M a g e n w a r e r w e i t e r t ; die H ü l l e n desselben v o n hellrosa F a r b e ; die Gefässe s t a r k m i t B l u t g e f ü l l t ; die S c h l e i m h a u t ein w e n i g g e s c h w e l l t , von r o t h e r F a r b e m i t e i n e m g r a u e n S c h i m m e r ; L o b e r u n d H e r z boten n i c h t s B e s o n d e r e s dar.

W i r e r s e h e n s o m i t a u s d e m e r w ä h n t e n Befund, dass in den F ä l l e n , welche rasch m i t d e m Tode e n d e n , der S e c t i o n s - befund absolut N i c h t s für die v o r l i e g e n d e V e r g i f t u n g T y p i sches g e b o t e n hat u n d dass der G e r i c h t s a r z t w o h l k a u m im S t a n d e g e w e s e n w ä r e , die D i a g n o s e e i n e r s t a t t g e h a b t e n P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g zu stellen, w e n n n i c h t das V o r h a n d e n s e i n des a u s dem M a g e n resp. dessen I n h a l t e k o m m e n d e n P h o p h o r g e - r u c h e s i h n auf die speeifische V e r g i f t u n g a u f m e r k s a m g e m a c h t h ä t t e . L e i d e r ist dieses A d j u v a n s sogar in den s e h r frühzeitig m i t dem Tode e n d e n d e n F ä l l e n nicht i m m e r v o r h a n d e n , sodass der G e r i c h t s a r z t sich zuweilen a u s s e r S t a n d e sieht, den F a l l r i c h t i g b e u r t h e i l e n zu k ö n n e n .

E i n a n d e r e s , ein bei weitein c h a r a c t e r i s t i s c h c r e s Bild bieten dem G c r i c h t s a r z t e diejenigen F ä l l e , die, n a c h d e m die K r a n k h e i t einige T a g e g e d a u e r t hat, zur O b d u c t i o n k o m m e n . H i e r ist der Befund ein t y p i s c h e r u n d d e s h a l b die D i a g n o s e fast i m m e r eine leichte. U n t e r den 38 F ä l l e n , die, wie b e r e i t s e r w ä h n t , z w i s c h e n 3,7 und r e s p . 11 T a g e n tödtlich verliefen, w a r das Sectionsbild in 28 F ä l l e n k a u m zu v e r k e n n e n . D i e s e 28 F ä l l e boten fast d u r c h w e g das t y p i s c h e Bild e i n e r s t a t t g e h a b t e n P b o s p h o r v c r g i f t u n g d a r ; I c t e r u s in den v e r s c h i e d e n s t e n S t ä r k e g r a d e n , V e r f e t t u n g der i n n e r e n O r g a n e , n a m e n t l i c h des H e r z e n s , der L e b e r u n d der N i e r e n u n d die E c c b y m o s e n in den S c h l e i m h ä u t e n u n d serösen H ä u t e n w a r e n i m m e r v o r h a n d e n ; m i t h i n j e n e r C o m p l o x von E r s c h e i n u n g e n , w e l c h e r für die i n F r a g e k o m m e n d e V e r g i f t u n g s a r t m i t H e c h t als t y p i s c h gilt. D i e L e i c h e n w a r e n m e h r oder w e n i g e r g e l b ; in den m e i s t e n F ä l l e n auffallend i c t e r i s c h ; dasselbe Bild, d e n selben F a r b e n t o n boten die i n n e r e n O r g a n e dar, n a m e n t l i c h die L e b e r , d e r e n W a c h s f ä r b u n g u n d teigige Consistenz auf

S e h r a u s g e s p r o c h e n w a r e n a u c h die B l u t u n g e n ; B l u t u n g e n von k l e i n e r e n E c c h y m o s e n an bis zu g r ö s s e r e n Suffusionen i n d i e v e r s c h i e d e n e n serösen H ä u t e u n d i n die O r g a n e .

D e r M a g e n bot fast g a r k e i n e a b n o r m e n E r s c h e i n u n g e n ; die S c h l e i m h a u t w a r i n t a c t , a b g e s e h e n v o n d e r z u w e i l e n b e o b a c h t e t e n H y p e r a e m i e . D a s B l u t w a r t h e i l s flüssig, t h e i l s l o c k e r g e r o n n e n .

D e n R e s t d e r b e o b a c h t e t e n F ä l l e — e t w a 10 an d e r Z a h l

— s t e l l t e n das Bild e i n e r s u b a c u t e n P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g d a r . D i e s e F ä l l e s t e h e n i n der M i t t e zwischen d e n h ö c h s t a u s g e p r ä g t e n u n d k a u m zu v e r k e n n e n d e n F ä l l e n v o n P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g u n d j e n e n F ä l l e n , w e l c h e w i r als a c u t e , schnell m i t d e m T o d e e n d e n d e F ä l l e beschrieben h a b e n . Die i n n e r e n O r g a n e z e i g t e n d e m g e m ä s s die v e r s c h i e d e n e n U c b e r g ä n g c zwischen t r ü b e r S c h w e l l u n g u n d fettiger D e g e n e r a t i o n .

D e n c h e m i s c h e n N a c h w e i s dos P h o s p h o r s i n d e r L e i c h e betreffend, m u s s h e r v o r g e h o b e n w e r d e n , d a s s derselbe in 14 F ä l l e n p o s i t i v u n d i n d e n ü b r i g e n 26 F ä l l e n n e g a t i v a u s g e fallen w a r . I n d e r l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e d i c i n a l b e h ö r d e zu R i g a fand ich ü b e r die n e g a t i v ausgefallenen F ä l l e folgende B e m e r k u n g von S e i t e n des H e r r n G e r i c h t s c h e m i k e r s , die ich w ö r t l i c h a n f ü h r e n will. D e r G e r i c h t s c h e m i k e r s a g t e : „ O b gleich d a s S e c t i o n s b i l d d u r c h a u s t y p i s c h für eine V e r g i f t u n g m i t P h o s p h o r w a r , so i s t d e n n o c h die chemische A n a l y s e n e g a t i v ausgefallen u n d z w a r a u s folgenden G r ü n d e n : „ D e r M a g e n w a r m i t S p i r i t u s ü b e r g ö s s e n ; d u r c h U e b e r g i e s s e n a b e r m i t S p i r i t u s ist d e r N a c h w e i s v o n P h o s p h o r e r s c h w e r t , w e n n n i c h t u n m ö g l i c h g e m a c h t ; o b e n d r e i n w a r e n z w i s c h e n d e m T o d e u n d der erfolgten c h e m i s c h e n A n a l y s e 1 r e s p . 2 W o c h e n v e r g a n g e n , so dass s ä m m t l i c h e r n o c h e t w a v o r h a n d e n e r P h o s p h o r zu P h o s p h o r s ä u r e o x y d i r t s e i n k o n n t e . "

D i e s e B e m e r k u n g v e r a n l a s s t e m i c h d u r c h e i n e n H e r r n L a b o r a n t e n des p h a r m a c e u t i s c h e n I n s t i t u t s H e r r n P r o f e s s o r D r . D r a g e n d o r f f u m seine M e i n u n g i n diesem fraglichen P u n c t e zu b i t t e n , d e r i n l i e b e n s w ü r d i g s t e r W e i s e sich d a h i n a u s s p r a c h , dass die A n w e s e n h e i t v o n S p i r i t u s i n L e i c h e n - t h e i l e n in der T h a t i m S t a n d e s e i , d e n N a c h w e i s v o n P h o s p h o r i n denselben zu e r s c h w e r e n , r e s p . g a n z zu v e r e i t e l n .

H i n s i c h t l i c h des z w e i t e n v o n d e m H e r r n G e r i c h t s c h e m i k e r a n g e f ü h r t e n G r u n d e s fand ich A u f k l ä r u n g i n e i n e m R e ferate, das H e r r P r o f e s s o r D r . A u f h e l l u n g der F r a g e : wie l a n g e d e r behufs V e r g i f t u n g g e n o s s e n e P h o s p h o r in d e r L e i c h e sich n a c h w e i s e n lässt, m i t d e m chemischen S a c h v e r s t ä n d i g e n A p o t h e k e r M ü l l e r eine l t e i h c v o n E x p e r i m e n t e n an M e e r s c h w e i n c h e n zu m a c h e n , die zu folgendem E r g e b n i s s e f ü h r t e n : es w u r d e n 4 M e e r s c h w e i n c h e n m i t j e 0,023 gr. P h o s p h o r , der von S t r e i c h h o l z k u p p e n g e n o m m e n w a r , v e r g i f t e t ; sie s t a r b e n nach einigen S t u n d e n u n d w u r d e n n e b e n e i n a n d e r ' /² m . tief in s a n d i g - l a t t i g e n B o d e n v e r g r a b e n . I m e r s t e n n a c h 4 W o c h e n e x h u m i r t e n T h i e r e w a r e n die O r g a n e noch s ä m i n t l i c h zu u n t e r s c h e i d e n . D u r c h das M i t s c h e r l i c h ' s c h e V e r f a h r e n ( A n s ä u e r n der z e r k l e i n e r t e n , in e i n e n K o l b e n g e s p ü l t e n M a s s e n u n d D e s t i l l i r e n . B e i B e g i n n des S i e d e n s t r i t t das c h a r a c t e r i s t i s c h e P h o s p h o r - L e u c h t e n ein) w u r d e die G e g e n w a r t von P h o s p h o r n a c h g e w i e s e n , die sich q u a n t i t a t i v auf 0,005 b e r e c h n e n liess. D a s zweite n a c h 8 W o c h e n a u s g e g r a b e n e T h i e r , an d e m sich die einzelnen O r g a n e k a u m u n t e r s c h e i d e n Hessen , e n t h i e l t noch 0,004 u n o x y - d i r t e n P h o s p h o r . B e i dem d r i t t e n nach 12 W o c h e n e x h u m i r t e n T h i e r e k o n n t e w e d e r p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e noch P h o s p h o r s ä u r e d u r c h D e s t i l l a t i o n n a c h g e w i e s e n w e r d e n , d. h. es w a r u n o x y d i r t e r P h o s p h o r n i c h t m e h r v o r h a n d e n . D o c h k o n n t e n a c h d e r D u s a r d - B l o n d l o t ' s c h e n M e t h o d e (es e n t w i c k e l t e sich im D u s a r d - B l o n d l o t ' s c h e n A p p a r a t e P h o s p h o r w a s s e r s t o f f , der b e i m A n z ü n d e n m i t p r a c h t v o l l e r g r ü n e r F l a m m e b r e n n t ) die E x i s t e n z v o n p h o s p h o r i g e r S ä u r e e r m i t t e l t , also V e r g i f t u n g m i t P h o s p h o r festgestellt w e r d e n . I m v i e r t e n n a c h 15 W o c h e n a u s g e g r a b e n e n M e e r s c h w e i n c h e n g e l a n g auch diese R e a c t i o n nicht. D e r s ä m m t l i c h e P h o s p h o r w a r bis zur P h o s p h o r s ä u r e o x y d i r t , welche ein n o r m a l e r B e s t a n d t h e i l des O r g a n i s m u s ist.

E s ist freilich zuzugeben, dass diese V e r s u c h e n i c h t v ö l lig im E i n k l a n g s t e h e n d ü r f t e n m i t d e n beim M e n s c h e n v o r k o m m e n d e n V e r g i f t u n g e n . E i n m a l w a r die M e n g e des ein

v e r l e i b t e n P h o s p h o r s für die k l e i n e n T h i e r c h e n eine ziemlich g r o s s e ; d a n n t r a t der Tod o h n e jedes E r b r e c h e n ein ( w ä h r e n d bei der P h o s p h o r v e r g i f ' t u n g beim M e n s c h e n E r b r e c h e n m e i s t v o r k o m m t ) , sodass also der ganze g e n o s s e n e P h o s p h o r im O r g a n i s m u s b l i e b ; e n d l i c h b i e t e t d a s dicht b e h a a r t e F e l l des M e e r s c h w e i n c h e n s der L u f t g e w i s s e i n e n g r ö s s e r e n W i d e r s t a n d als die H a u t . I m m e r h i n a b e r b e w e i s e n die V e r s u c h e , dass d e r P h o s p h o r n a c h l ä n g e r e r Zeit i n d e r L e i c h e n a c h w e i s b a r ist, als dies bei d e r e n e r g i s c h e n O x y d a t i o n s f ä h i g k e i t des P h o s p h o r s zu e r w a r t e n ist.

D a d e r H e r r G e r i c h t s c h e m i k e r d e r l i v l ä n d i s c h e n M e d i - c i n a l b e h ö r d e schon nach 1—2 W o c h e n in den i h m z u g e s c h i c k t e n L e i c h c n t h e i l c n w e d e r P h o s p h o r noch ein O x y d a t i o n s - p r o d u e t desselben n a c h w e i s e n k o n n t e , so m ü s s e n w i r a n n e h m e n , dass, a b g e s e h e n v o n d e r beeinflussenden W i r k u n g des S p i r i t u s , die g e n o m m e n e M e n g e in den e i n z e l n e n F ä l l e n k e i n e s e h r

grosse g e w e s e n sein dürfte u n d dass o b e n d r e i n d u r c h E r b r e c h e n u n d D u r c h f a l l der P h o s p h o r b e r e i t s bei L e b z e i t e n d e n O r g a n i s m u s v e r l a s s e n h a b e . I c h will jedoch n o c h m a l s b e t o n e n , d a s s die O x y d a t i o n des P h o s p h o r s viel l a n g s a m e r u n d s c h w e r e r v o r sich g e h t , als m a n d e n k e n sollte. So ist es v o m c h e m i schen S t a n d p u n k t e a u s , sagt R o b e r t¹) gar n i c h t zu v e r s t e h e n , wie in sauerstoffhaltigem A r t e r i e n b l u t e sich S p u r e n v o n P h o s p h o r S t u n d e n l a n g h a l t e n k ö n n e n , o h n e o x y d i r t zu w e r d e n , u n d doch ist dies t h a t s ä c h l i c h der F a l l .

I n einigen, e t w a 4 F ä l l e n ist v o m H e r r n G e r i c h t s c h e m i - k e r n i c h t freier P h o s p h o r , s o n d e r n das e r s t e O x y d a t i o n s p r o - d u e t desselben n a c h g e w i e s e n w o r d e n . D i e p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e ist w e d e r ein n o r m a l e r B e s t a n d t h e i l des O r g a n i s m u s , noch e n t s t e h t sie auf i r g e n d eine W e i s e d u r c h R e d u c t i o n der P h o s p h o r s ä u r e , w e l c h e i h r e r s e i t s ein n o r m a l e r B e s t a n d t h e i l aller O r g a n i s m e n , selbst in faulenden thierischen S u b s t a n z e n n i c h t in p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e oder P h o s p h o r w a s s e r s t o f f z u r ü c k g e f ü h r t w i r d , wie dies d u r c h V e r s u c h e v o n F r e s e n i u s , N e u b a u e r , S e 1 m i²) u n d a n d e r e n ü b e r z e u g e n d b e w i e s e n ist. D i e p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e ist stets ein P r o d u c t freien P h o s p h o r s ; w o sie sich im O r g a n i s m u s v o r f i n d e t , m u s s sie in i h r e r E n t s t e h u n g a u f freien P h o s p h o r , w e l c h e r als solcher in den O r g a n i s m u s g e l a n g t i s t , z u r ü c k g e f ü h r t w e r d e n . D a a b e r die p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e w e i t e r e n Sauerstoff m i t d e r Z e i t a u f n i m m t u n d sich dabei zu P h o s p h o r s ä u r e o x y d i r t , so v e r s c h w i n d e t sie a l l m ä h l i g in den faulen L e i c h e n u n d nach l ä n g e r e r Z e i t w i r d auch n i c h t eine S p u r d e r s e l b e n n a c h z u w e i s e n sein. Die P h o s p h o r s ä u r e ist aber, wie b e r e i t s e r w ä h n t , ein n o r m a l e r B e s t a n d t h e i l a l l e r O r g a n i s m e n u n d d e r N a c h w e i s i h r e s V o r h a n d e n s e i n s n i c h t m e h r beweisend für die A r t i h r e r E n t s t e h u n g .

D a s s die p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e sich r e c h t lange in der L e i c h e e r h a l t e n k a n n , beweist derselbe F a l l , ü b e r den P r o f e s s o r D r . F i s c h e r in B r e s l a u b e r i c h t e t e . D i e L e i c h e des A. h a t t e 3 M o n a t e in d e r E r d e gelogen u n d befand sich b e r e i t s in e i n e m v o r g e s c h r i t t e n e n S t a d i u m der F ä u l n i s s . E s darf d a h e r n i c h t ü b e r r a s c h e n , dass R e s t e g e n o s s e n e n P h o s p h o r s n i c h t m e h r als solche aufgefunden w o r d e n sind, s o n d e r n bereits in o x y d i r t e m Z u s t a n d e als p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e u n d selbst diese n u r in s e h r g e r i n g e r M e n g e , aber unzweifelhaft n a c h g e w i e s e n w e r d e n k o n n t e . S o w e i t b e k a n n t , g e l a n g es h i e r z u m e r s t e n Mal, in e i n e r 3 M o n a t e a l t e n L e i c h e noch p h o s p h o r i g e S ä u r e n a c h z u w e i s e n .

D i e s e B e f u n d e v e r a n l a s s t e n M ü l l e r das G u t a c h t e n a b z u g e b e n , dass die U n t e r s u c h t e an P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g g e s t o r b e n s e i , u m s o - m e h r , als v o n den C h e m i k e r n eine S p u r p h o s p h o r i g e r S ä u r e i n d e n E i n g e w e i d e n gefunden w u r d e . I n e i n e r S e l b s t k r i t i k dieses G u t a c h t e n s bezeichnet er die P h o s p h o r v e r g i f t u n g n u r als w a h r s c h e i n l i c h u n d m a c h t auf die auch schon v o n A n d e r e n e r w ä h n t e A e h n l i c h k e i t z w i s c h e n P h o s p h o r - u n d F l i e g e n

V e r g i f t u n g e n m i t r e i n e m K o h l e n o x y d g a s sind n u r b e i u n v o r s i c h t i g e r A n s t e l l u n g c h e m i s c h e r u n d p h y s i c a l i s c h e r E x p e r i m e n t e v o r g e k o m m e n ; d a g e g e n sind V e r g i f t u n g e n d u r c h K o h l e n d u n s t ü b e r a l l u n d a u c h in u n s e r e r P r o v i n z s e h r häufig.

U n t e r K o h l o n d u n s t v e r s t e h t m a n das Gasgemenge', das sich a u s g l ü h e n d e n H o l z k o h l e n , S t e i n k o h l e n oder Torf e n t w i c k e l t sowie auch bei u n v o l l s t ä n d i g e m V e r b r e n n e n v o n H o l z etc. in geschlossenen R ä u m e n sich f i n d e t ; es w e c h s e l t i n s e i n e r Z u s a m m e n s e t z u n g n a c h der A r t d e r K o h l e , d e m G r a d e u n d d e r D a u e r i h r e r V e r b r e n n u n g s e h r u n d e n t h ä l t n e b e n 79^ Stickstoff u n d 10«^ Sauerstoff i m D u r c h s c h n i t t K o h l e n o x y d u n d 6 ^ K o h l e n s ä u r e , a u s s e r d e m u n w e s e n t l i c h e b r e n z l i c h e Stoffe u n d m a n c h m a l e t w a s schweflige S ä u r e . W i e gesagt, der Tod d u r c h K o h l e n o x y d g a s ist ein ü b e r a u s häufiger u n d w i r d n i c h t n u r d u r c h V e r u n g l ü c k u n g h e r b e i g e führt, was freilich a m häufigsten v o r z u k o m m e n pflegt, s o n d e r n häufig w ä h l e n auch S e l b s t m ö r d e r diese T o d e s a r t ; s e l b s t F ä l l e v o n Mord sind b e k a n n t ; m i n d e s t e n s ist der V e r d a c h t , d a s s es sich u m einen Mord h a n d e l e , i n n e u e s t e r Z e i t vielfach e r h o b e n w o r d e n , wofür L i m a n²) ein B e i s p i e l a n f ü h r t ; eine F r a u wollte sich u n d i h r e m K i n d e das L e b e n d u r c h K o h l e n d u n s t n e h m e n ; m a n fand die F r a u b e w u s s t l o s , d a s K i n d todt. D e r S e l b s t m o r d d a m i t k o m m t besonders i n F r a n k r e i c h häufig v o r u n d n i m m t nach s t a t i s t i s c h e n D a t e n daselbst b e s t ä n d i g zu.

B e r e i t s in den J a h r e n 1834—1843 k a m e n in P a r i s u n t e r 4595 S e l b s t m o r d e n 1432 S e l b s t m o r d e d u r c h K o h l e n d u n s t (7G0 M ä n n e r u n d 072 W e i b e r ) v o r³) ; i n F r a n k r e i c h k a m e n u n t e r 17,852 S e l b s t m o r d e n in den J a h r e n 1848—1852 1401 auf M o r d e d u r c h K o h l e n d u n s t u n d n u r 4 1 1 a u f solche d u r c h a n d e r e Gifte.

W ä h r e n d also d a s K o h l e n o x y d i n P a r i s die e r s t e S t e l l e in d e r H ä u f i g k e i t s s c a l a d e r v e r s c h i e d e n e n S e l b s t m o r d a r t e n ein

H i e r b e i ist zu b e m e r k e n , dass diese Z a h l e n n i c h t a b s o l u t e sind u n d sicherlich das D o p p e l t e b e t r a g e n , w e n n m a n e r w ä g t , dass eine grosse A n z a h l L e i c h e n d e r a r t i g e r con- s t a t i r t e r Todesfälle in i h r e n W o h n u n g e n v e r b l e i b e n u n d dass eine n i c h t u n b e t r ä c h t l i c h e Z a h l v o n den den Todteiischein a u s s t e l l e n d e n A e r z t e n v e r k a n n t w i r d .
