On October 5, 2019 Dresden (as "Capital of German Cartosemiotics") was the host for the seminar "From Cartosemiotics to Atlassemiotics"

of the German Society for Semiotics (DGS).

The organizers of the seminar were M. Huch, H. Schlichtmann and A. Wolodtschenko, advisory boards of the DGS and co-chairs of the section

"Environmental and Carto / Atlassemiotics".

The two paper sessions and the poster session showed a methodological change in cartosemio- tics, the change from mono-discipline to multi- disciplinary research, the crisis of theoretical cartography and its semiotic "renaissance".

H. Schlichtmann presented his contribution

"Observations on the Semiotics of Maps".
