I wanted to take some time to share with you some exciting yet bittersweet news from my own life. A few weeks ago, I was of- fered a position at Ascension Healthcare as a Ministry Formation Manager. I will be leaving St. Michael at Christmas time and starting my new job shortly after the New Year.

While I am excited for this new opportunity, I am sad to leave the many wonderful coworkers and parishioners I have grown to love dearly over my time here. It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve you and work with you over these last three and a half years.

Please pray for me in this new transition in my own life and for the transition at the parish to fill this role with the right person. Know that you are also in my prayers.

Have a wonderful week, Patty

This month in first grade we are celebrating Advent!

We have several activities that we have planned for the kids.

The students love watching the Brother Francis Days of Advent vid- eos. There is one for each day. It is animated and tells the story leading up to Jesus’ birth. Each video also has a short prayer that we say together and gives an activity that the kids can do. We also have little booklets that go along with each week of Advent. Our classes are using an Advent calendar that gives us ideas of things we can do for others during this time.

We read a book called The Sparkle Box. The book is about a boy and his family who fill the box with good deeds they have done during Advent. They open up the box on Christmas as a gift to Baby Jesus on His birthday. The kids are then encouraged to make a sparkle box for their own house and fill it with notes about the good deeds that their family has done during Advent. It could be anything like putting money in the red pot when they go shopping, making cards for someone, donating clothes or food to the poor, etc… The children really love having concrete things that they can do to prepare for the coming of Christ. This is such an exciting time of year for kids and it’s wonderful to see them so engaged in doing things for others. Have a blessed Advent!
