Curator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts, The J. Paul Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks an experienced scholar and curator to head its combined department of Sculpture and Decorative Arts. The collection dates from the 15th through 19th centuries, covering both northern and southern Europe. Particular strengths are Renaissance bronzes and 19th-century Neoclassical sculpture; 18th-century French furniture; and French, German, and Italian Renaissance ceramics. The acquisition of important works of sculpture is a major priority. Reporting to the Associate Director for Collections, the Curator supervises staff curators in both decorative arts and sculpture, and is responsible for collaboration with the department of Decorative Arts and Sculpture Conservation. Duties include the development of the collection through acquisition, cultivation of potential donors and lenders, oversight of collection installation, research,

publication, and documentation. The Curator also actively participates in exhibition development and educational programs for the general public.

The successful candidate will have an M.A. or Ph.D. in a relevant field, ten years curatorial or equivalent experience, preferably at an institution actively acquiring works of art, relevant language skills, and knowledge of the art market. Letters of interest and resumes may be sent to: Human Resources, ATTN: JM, The J. Paul Getty Museum, 1200 Getty Center Drive, Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90049-1687. Or fax to 310/440-6184.
