Dear students,

Obviously not everybody has registered at IServe yet. Please, do that as soon as possible!!!

You get your password at the secretary’s office which is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 – 12.

Next week I’m going to send my tasks via IServe only! And I expect you to be registered!!!

Below you find the task I sent on Tuesday:

Titel Brick Lane (excerpt): Writing a characterization Starttermin 17.03.2020 14:10

Abgabetermin 24.03.2020 14:10

Dear students,

I hope you are fine at the moment and you do not suffer from any symptoms of the virus.

Last lesson we started to deal with the four different characters of the novel BRICK LANE.

You were supposed to collect as much information as possible about a character you have chosen.

As you cannot present your results orally, I ask you to write a characterization about your chosen character.

Please, do not write more than two pages and send in the result in time.

Mind the criteria for writing a characterization (see worksheet) and work carefully.

Hopefully, see you soon!

Best regards Beatrix Ortlepp

Additionally, I offered some topics for presentations (see below).

Two of them have been already taken, so, right now, I only publish those which are still vacant.

Presentations: Ethnic and cultural diversity in the UK and the USA (Ortl)

There is a marvelous opportunity for all those who do not belong to the active-classroom- participants:

Give a presentation!!! – alone (10 minutes) or together with a partner (20 minutes).

Here is a choice of topics:

1. Trump’s immigration policy

What has changed for US immigrants since President Trump took office?

Explain some measures and their impact on immigrants of a certain ethnic minority.

2. Tiger Mothers

Define the term and explain this species especially in the context of their social and ethnic background in the US.

(2)

Feel free to find a topic yourself!

However, it has to take up a question dealing with ethnic diversity in the UK or USA.

Be prepared to give your presentation from April 23 onwards.

Illustrate your findings by including numbers, statistics, images, podcasts etc.

Prepare a handout with the gist and the sources of your findings.

You have made your decision yet? Please, send a message as soon as possible.

First come, first served!
