The World in 24 Hours (online, 16 Feb 22)

online / University of Melbourne, Feb 16, 2022 Deadline: Oct 28, 2021

Chloe Ho -- Call for Panels -- The World in 24 Hours

PhD/ECR conference hosted by The University of Melbourne’s School of Culture & Communica- tion.

The World in 24 Hours aims to provide a platform for researchers to share work that engages in local and international art historical discourse. We welcome panel proposals from art historians and curators at the PhD/ECR (within 5 years post-PhD or equivalent) to contribute to our ambi- tious attempt to listen to and spotlight work done around the world, about the world, within a 24- hour period.

In particular, we seek panel proposals that promote the continued work and solidarity between gra- duate researchers who may have been unable to collaborate in recent years. This includes those impacted by issues such as geographical dispersal, lack of archival access and border closures.

Rather than work that may have happened through or because of the global grounding, this confer- ence hopes to encourage connection between graduate researchers who have been isolated and whose work may have been reduced or disrupted.

Panel proposals that include as chair a faculty member from University of Melbourne Art History

& Curatorship programme will be favourably considered. Panels will be further considered in rela- tion to the geographical spread of art and/or scholars already represented in other panels.

All panels will be allocated 120 minutes, and must allow at least 30 minutes for audience ques- tions and discussion.

All panels will be held online (via Zoom or equivalent). An in-person component might be available to Melbourne-based participants subject to ongoing restrictions.

A standard “research panel” comprises of at least 3 and no more than 4 speakers, each delivering a research paper of maximum 20 minutes, along with a short introduction by the convenor(s) and Chair.
