Great Britain

Great Britain – that’s the three countries of England, Scotland and Wales. Let’s go on a little trip through Great Britain to check out some of its most popular places. So pack your bags and off we go …

To find out more about the famous places in Great Britain, start reading at number 1.

1

What do you think of first when you think of famous places in Great Britain? London, of course! You can spend a lot of time there. Now let’s go to another town – this one is famous for its castle. Its name starts with the letter ‘W’.

2

This is Yorkshire, which is a county (Grafschaft) in the north of England.

It’s not near the Welsh border.

3

These lakes are also very famous. But the Lake District is in the north of England, near the border with Scotland.

4

Cambridge is a famous historic city near London. Here you will find one of the most respected ( angesehen) universities in the world – Cambridge University. In Cambridge you can visit many sights: museums, parks, historic buildings … But we have to leave now. When you read the name of the city we’ll go to next, you might think of a swimming pool. But in fact the city is famous for football.

5

Cardigan is also a town in Wales, but it’s not the capital.

6

Windsor is a small town near London. It’s not as famous as London, but it is also worth visiting ( sehenswert). In the town of Windsor you can visit Windsor Castle, one of the official residences (Amtssitze) of the Royal Family. Next we are going to see a mysterious stone circle (Kreis) which is on the south coast of England.

7

The Callanish Stones are also a stone circle, but they are in Scotland.

That’s too far for us.

8

This is Loch Nell – it’s quite a small lake.

9

The city of Liverpool has a famous football club, FC Liverpool. But you can visit a lot more: there’s a famous port (Hafen), a cathedral and many different museums. But now it’s time for us to leave England – let’s go to the capital of Scotland.

Great Britain

You might know that Great Britain is the name of the three countries England, Scotland and Wales. Let’s go on a little trip through Great Britain to check out some of its most popular places. So pack your bags and off we go …

To find out more about the famous places in Britain, start reading at number 1.

1 What do you think of first when you think of famous places in Great Britain? London, of course! England’s capital (Hauptstadt) is a famous tourist attraction, with almost too many sights to see in one visit – you can easily spend a week there and still not have seen all the famous places. But we have to leave London now. Let’s go to another town that is famous for its castle. Its name starts with the letter ‘W’.

It is expensive to visit the sights of London. How much would you have to pay altogether to visit the London Eye (£17), the Tower of London (£12) and Westminster Abbey (£10)?

2 This is Yorkshire, an area in the north of England. It’s not near the Welsh border.

3 These lakes are also very famous. But the Lake District is in the north of England, near the border with Scotland.

4 Cambridge is a famous historic city near London. A lot of people living in Cambridge are students. That’s because one of the most respected (angesehen) universities in the world can be found there: Cambridge University. But there is so much more to see:

museums, parks, historic buildings … But we have to leave now. When you read the name of the city we’ll go to next, you might think of a swimming pool. But the city is famous for football.

5 Cardigan is also a town in Wales, but it’s not the capital.

6 West of London there is a small town called Windsor. It’s not as famous as London, but it is also worth visiting (sehenswert) because of its connection to the royals. Did you know that the current (derzeitig) royals are from the ‘House of Windsor’? When you’re in the town, you can visit Windsor Castle, one of the official residences (Amtssitze) of the Royal Family. Next we are going to see a mysterious stone circle which is on the south coast of England.

7 The Callanish Stones are also a stone circle, but they are in Scotland. That’s too far for us.

8 This is a rather small lake called Loch Nell.

9 Everyone who is interested in football has probably heard of Liverpool. That’s because the city has a famous football club, FC Liverpool. But Liverpool has more to offer (anbieten) than good football. There is a famous port (Hafen), a cathedral, museums and much more. But now it’s time for us to leave England. This time we are going to the capital of Scotland.

Since 2015 Liverpool has had a trainer from Germany. Do you know his name?
