Interventionsmöglichkeiten
bei Verkehrsunfällen durch Müdigkeit
Bei Müdigkeit Auto zu fahren, erhöht die Unfallgefahr. Dies ergab eine pro- spektive Kohortenstudie mit mehr als 13 000 Mitarbeitern eines französi- schen Unternehmens (1). Die Frage: „Sind Sie während der letzten zwölf Monate jemals müde Auto gefahren“ bejahten zu Studienbeginn 5 077 Personen (37,1 Prozent).
In den folgenden zwei Jahren dokumentierten die Wissenschaftler in der Kohorte 260 schwere Verkehrsunfälle mit motorisierten Fahrzeu- gen. In einem Fragebogen nannten die verunglückten Fahrer die nähe- ren Umstände des Unfallgeschehens. Hierbei berücksichtigte man auch Müdigkeit als mögliche Unfallursache. Personen, die zu Beginn der Studie Müdigkeit beim Fahren angaben, hatten ein um 50 Prozent er- höhtes Unfallrisiko. Die Autoren folgern, dass Autofahrer nicht dadurch weniger Unfälle verursachen, wenn sie sich Ihrer Müdigkeit bewusst sind.
Interventionsmöglichkeiten bei Müdigkeit ergeben sich aus einer Unter- suchung mit zwölf jungen Männern. In dieser doppelblinden randomisier- ten Crossover-Studie gingen die Autoren der Frage nach, ob 125 mL Kaf- fee mit 200 mg Koffein oder ein 30-minütiger Schlaf die Fahrsicherheit bei Müdigkeit verbessern können. Die Testpersonen mussten tagsüber und nachts jeweils 2 h auf der Autobahn fahren. Mit Video erfasste man, wie oft die Fahrer verbotenerweise Fahrbahnmarkierungen überfuhren. Nach dem Kaffeegenuss fuhren 75 Prozent der Probanden genauso sicher wie tags- über, nach einem 30-minütigen Schlaf 66 Prozent und nach Placebogabe in Form von dekoffeiniertem Kaffee lediglich 13 Prozent. Individuelle Unter- schiede zeigten sich hinsichtlich der Schlafentzugssymptomatik und dem Ansprechen auf Kaffee oder den Kurzschlaf. Nach den Nachtfahrten ver- brachten die Männer die restliche Nacht im Schlaflabor. Hier zeigte sich, dass weder Kaffee noch der vorherige Schlaf die Schlafqualität negativ be- einflussten. Die Autoren schätzen, dass durch jede der Interventionen das Unfallrisiko um den Faktor 3 bis 4 gesenkt werden kann. me 1.
