1 General Information

1.1 Important Safety Precautions

Read these instructions carefully and keep them for later reference.

Observe all warnings and instruction labels on the products.

Always disconnect the power plug before cleaning! Do not use liquid cleaning agents or cleaning sprays; use a damp cloth instead.

Before connecting the AC cable to the DC adapter make sure that the voltage corresponds to that of your local power supply system.

Under no circumstances insert any metal objects into the openings of the monitor!

Danger of electrical shock!

To avoid danger of electrical shock, the monitor must not be opened. Only qualified technicians are allowed to open the housing.

Never operate the monitor with a defective power cable.

Do not allow any object to rest on the power cable.

Be sure to hold the plug, not the cable, when disconnecting the display from an electric socket.

Openings in the display cabinet are provided for ventilation. To prevent overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered.

Do not fit your display at any locations subject to high humidity and dust.

Do not expose the display to rain or use it near water. If the display accidentally gets wet, unplug it and contact an authorized dealer immediately.

If your display does not operate normally - in particular, if there are any unusual sounds or smells coming from it - unplug it immediately and contact an authorized dealer or service center.

High temperatures may cause problems. Do not use your display in direct sunlight, and keep it away from heaters, stoves, fireplaces, and other sources of heat.

Unplug the display when it is going to be left unused for an extended period of time.

Unplug your display from the electric outlet before any service.

Do not press on the flat-panel screen, since it is very sensitive.

Do not touch the flat-panel display with bare hands: Fingerprints are hard to remove and may damage the display.

The monitor must not be subjected to direct sunlight or other sources of heat. During operation the flat-panel display should not face a source of light to avoid glare.

To ensure proper heat dissipation place your monitor in a location with adequate ventilation.

Be careful when moving and transporting your monitor!

1.2 Cleaning the Flat-Panel Display

Cleaning the flat-panel display

Carefully wipe the screen with a soft and clean lens brush of camel hair or a soft, clean and lint-free cloth to remove dust and other particles without scratching the surface.

If it is still not clean, gently wipe the monitor with a damp rag.

Do not use ketones (e.g. acetone), ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, methanol or chlorides for cleaning, since these substances may damage the surface.

Do not exert pressure on the front of your flat-panel display.

2 Operation

2.1 Commissioning

Ensure that your control is not under power.

Connect the grounding cable to the grounding connector of the monitor (JH products).

Connect the power cable to the monitor (monitor requires line voltage).

Connect the video cable of the control to the video signal connector of the monitor.

Switch on the control.

Note

If this cable is missing, you must insert a ground conductor from the central ground of the machine to the monitor.

Note

Make sure that the cable shield is connected to the connector housing on both cable ends.

Note

*** For connecting the flat-panel display to the video module a monochrome adapter cable (length 1 m), ID 510 195-01 must be connected to socket CN4.

The old video module 4022 226 3720 has to be replaced by the new version 4022 226 3721!

If the flat-panel display is connected to the control teletext module as a replacement of a monochrome VDU, the adapter cable is required as well. A color video cable can be inserted into the machine, if you want to switch from monochrome to colored mode with the control teletext modules 4022 226 3432 and 4022 226 3433.

See “Video Cable for Control Teletext Module C, Color” on page 24.

Contr. telet. modules 4022 226 3431, 4022 226 3432 and 4022 226 3433

For monochrome operation you require the 1 m adapter cable (ID 510 195-01) or you make your own cable as per the drawing below.

For your new cable please use a well-shielded 6-pin computer cable.

Cable type: 3 x 2 x 0.14 mm² Length: 25 m max.

"Free" pins must not be assigned!

For some control models the shield must additionally be connected to the grounding bar of the control; please refer to the commissioning instructions of your control!

The signal ground (Sig. GND) must not be connected to the shield!

Only use shielded connector housings!

Your cable should only be as long as necessary, with a little allowance for mounting and dismounting the monitor.

4.2 Video Cable for Control Teletext Module C, Color

Color operation is possible with:

Contr. telet. modules C 4022 226 3432 and 4022 226 3433

You can use the existing video cable of your machine. The monitor is compatible with the old pin layout.

For your new cable please use a well-shielded 10-pin computer cable.

Cable type:5 x 2 x 0.14 mm² Length: 25 m max.

The pins labeled "Free" must not be assigned!

For some control models the shield must additionally be connected to the grounding bar of the control; please refer to the commissioning instructions of your control!

4.4 Video Cable for EPC 8 Module

You can use the existing video cable of your machine.

For a new video cable please use a high-quality VGA cable.

Cable type: 3 x coax + 3 x 2 x 0.14 mm² Length: 20 m max.

The signal ground must not be connected to the shield!

Only use shielded connector housings!

Your cable should only be as long as necessary, with a little allowance for mounting and dismounting the monitor.

5 Improvements

5.1 Changes for Lathe Controls with External Control Module

Owing to the high signal band width of the flat-panel display, it cannot be operated in combination with an External Control Module. The reason is that the video lines are not separately shielded in the cable. The edges of the scanning signals for the keyboard act capacitively on the video lines (cross-talking).

Solution:

Cut the lines marked by ** in the 37-pin D-sub connector (on the Contr. Teletext side).

Run a separate video cable from the Video connector of the Contr. Telet. Module to the monitor.

Cable for monochrome applications: See “Video Cable for Video Module and Control Teletext Module, Monochrome” on page 23.

Cables for color applications: See “Video Cable for Control Teletext Module C, Color” on page 24.

7 Service and Maintenance

7.1 General Information

The commissioning and maintenance of the device may only be performed by a service technician authorized by the manufacturer.

Only have an authorized service technician repair the device.

7.2 Service

Opening the device creates danger of electric shock as conducting parts are exposed.

Therefore, separate the device from the supply voltage before you open it.

The manufacturer's liability for safety-relevant assemblies exists only, if service, maintenance and modifications are executed exclusively by authorized specialists and if original spare parts are used.

7.3 Maintenance

For cleaning the unit, do not use alcohol or ammonia-based cleaning agents. If required, wipe the device with a damp cloth. For this purpose disconnect the monitor from the power supply.
