his chapter lists all parameters eligible for configuring the Remote Access Concentrator (RAC) using Annex Manager. For each parameter the chapter provides:• A brief description of the parameter function.
• An explanation of dependencies, if they occur, among parameters.
• References to additional information in other RAC documentation.
• A list containing the parameter type, allowable values, default value, and the Annex Manager lists in which the parameter appears.
Each parameter description includes a default value. If you use theSite Parameters command to change default values in help messages, the values listed in this section do not agree with your help messages. Remember that Site Parameters changes help text only; if you do not enter a parameter value, the RAC continues to use the default values listed here.
a_router defines the Ethernet address that the RAC attempts to use as the AppleTalk router address. If the router does not respond, the RAC listens for an RTMP packet and uses the address in the packet as the new router address. You can enter0 to direct the RAC to find the router.
acp_key defines the encryption key used to exchange messages between the RAC and the security server. You can use this parameter only when theenable_security
parameter is set toenabledand a security server is defined. The security server maintains the encryption key for each RAC in theacp_keys file. For security reasons, Annex Manager displays onlyset orunsetfor the value of this parameter.
The RAC and the security server can communicate only when the value of this parameter is the same as the value of the RAC in the security serveracp_keys file.
alarmsyslog allows the RAC to generate a syslog at the warning level when it detects any alarm event. To use this feature you must enable syslogging on a RAC using the
syslog_facility,syslog_host, andsyslog_mask parameters.
allow_broadcast permits an asynchronous port to receive administrative broadcast messages generated by theBoot andBroadcast commands.
Type RAC
Lists Async Port, Basic Async Port
allow_compression allows a RAC to use TCP/IP header compression for SLIP or PPP modes. Header compression occurs only when the other side of the serial link initiates compression.
anxpNetRemoteAddress the Internet address for the host at the remote end of the point-to-point (SLIP, PPP) link.
anxt1ChanIpAddr returns the IP address associated with the B channel. When needed, this IP address is used for calls over the B channel.
anxt1ChanRing specifies if RAC should provide the audible ring to the central office on incoming calls.

anxt1ChanSigProto indicates the inbound and outbound signalling protocols supported by each DS0 T1 channel.
anxt1ds1LineBuildout contains the cable loss measurement, in decibels, between the last T1 signal regenerator and your location. This measurement is supplied by the telephone company at installation. You should adjust your buildout based on this measurement.
anxt1Dsx1LineType indicates the variety of DS1line implementing this circuit. The type of circuit affects the number of bits per second that the circuit can carry, as well as the usage and error statistics.
anxt1SwitchType selects the switch type compatible with the PRI provider.
Type T1 DS0

arap_v42bis allows V.42bis compression during an AppleTalk session.
at_guest allows guests to log into an AppleTalk session. If you chooseenabled and a client requests guest access, the RAC asks ACP for username guest privileges.
at_nodeid specifies the Appletalk hint used by the RAC on a specific port. You can enter an ID in decimal or hexadecimal notation. Each ID has two parts separated by a dot:
• A network address ranges from 0 to 65534 (0x0000 to 0xFFFE).
• A node address ranges from 0 to 255 (0x00 to 0xFE).
For example,191.253,0x00BF.253 and191.0xFD designate the same address.

at_security turns on ACP service for an AppleTalk session. When you chooseenabled for this parameter and forenable_security, the RAC uses ACP to get security information about the client, including authentication, logging, and zone access information. If you choosedisabled, the RAC uses only local security.
attn_string defines a control character sequence that returns users to the CLI prompt. Users can define a Annex Managerrary control character sequence using the CLIstty attncommand.
authoritative_agent allows a RAC to send an ICMP Address Mask reply to a host that broadcasts a subnet mask request.
authorized_groups specifies the LAT protocol remote group codes that are accessible to users on a RAC port. You can enterall, none, a series of numbers separated by commas (e.g.,1,5,7) or a range of numbers separated by dashes
Value + any character, up to 16 characters
Default “ “ (null string) or + (for vcli connections) Lists Async Port, Command LIne Editing, Modem, Modem

Values all, none, numbers between 0 and 255 Default none
Lists Async Port, LAT
autobaud controls whether line speed is determined automatically when a connection is opened. If you chooseenabled, the modem or terminal connecting to a RAC determines speed automatically. In this case the RAC sets the speed by analyzing the data pattern generated when you press . If it cannot determine the speed within two minutes, the connection attempt fails.
If you want to disable the autobaud feature, you must enter a value in thespeed parameter before you choosedisabled here.
backward_key defines the character sequence that opens the next lower-numbered session established at a port. Bay Networks recommends that you use a sequence with
+ a character. The key displays as ^. If you use more than one letter or number, Annex Manager separates characters with a slash (/). For example, +a +b, displays as^a/b.
banner controls whether the RAC banner and message-of-the-day are displayed on CLI ports.
Lists Async Port, Basic Async Port
bidirectional_modem allows you to transmit and receive data after connecting to an asynchronous port.
When you choosedisabled, you can connect to the port, but communication cannot occur until the Data Carrier Detect (DCD) modem signal is active. This parameter is obsolete in Release 10.1.A and in subsequent releases.
broadcast_addr specifies the IP address for RAC broadcasts (network.255 or network.0).
broadcast_direction controls the direction in which a RAC sends an administrative broadcast message. When you choosenetwork, the RAC sends a message from the network side of the connection. If you chooseport, it sends a message from the port side.
You can use this parameter only when themode parameter is set toslave.
bypass removes the T1 engine from the network. You should enterenabled when you first install a RAC or when the T1 engine is not functioning properly.

CallDef_allow_

CallDef_arap_v42bis allows V.42bis compression during an AppleTalk session that was initiated through a call to a RAC or an ISDN Primary Rate RAC.
CallDef_at_guest allows guests to log into an AppleTalk session through a call to a RAC or an ISDN Primary Rate RAC. If you chooseenabled and a client requests guest access, the ISDN Primary Rate RAC asks ACP for username guest privileges.
