Comparing RAC Configurations

To compare RAC configurations:

1. Create a RAC list (page 2-1).

If you want to compare two scripts you can skip this step.

You must create a RAC list if you want to compare two RACs or a RAC and a script. You can create a list before you display the Comparewindow, or you can display theCompare window first, return to theMain window to create the list, and again choose Compare.

2. Choose the Configure menu and click Compare.

TheCompare window appears (Figure 7-9).

Figure 7-9. Compare Window

3. Click Compare Options and select the comparison type you want.

The list boxes and fields change depending on the option you choose. If you selectAnnex vs. Annex, you must choose aParameter Option from theMain window.

If you selectAnnex vs. Annex orAnnex vs. Script, go to step 3. If you selectScript vs. Script, skip steps 3 and 4 and go to step 5.

The comparison option you select determines the kinds of boxes and fields that display. When you compare:

• Two RACs, each box displays your Annex list, a port type button, and a port number field for each Annex list. A message appears below theCompare Options reminding you that the comparison is based on your selections in theMain window. You can select one RAC from each box, and a port type and number for each RAC.

Annex Manager compares two RACs based on the parameter options you selected. If you selectMain Window Paramsand a parameter option that includes port parameters, the port type you enter must match yourMain window selections.Figure 7-10 shows the window that compares two RACs.

Figure 7-10. Compare Window for two RACs

The selections forMain Window Params are:

Main Window Params to compare values based on the parameter options you selected in theMain window.

Annex Only Params to compare all parameters, excluding port parameters.

Async Port Params to compare asynchronous port parameter values.

Printer Port Params to compare printer port parameter values.

Enet Port Params to compare Ethernet port parameter values.

WAN Module Paramsto compare WAN module parameter values.

• A RAC and a script, the left-hand box displays the RAC list and the right-hand box displays the default script directory.

A message can appear below theCompare Optionswindow reminding you that the port you enter substitutes for the wild card ports of the script. The port type button and port number field display below the Annex list box. You can select a single RAC from the list. If the script you select contains wild card ports, you must enter a port type and number.

The script selection field displays below theScript List box. If you select an existing script, its directory and file name appear in the field. If you want to compare a script stored in another directory, enter its directory and name in the selection field.Figure 7-11 shows the window for theAnnex vs. Script option.

Figure 7-11. Compare Window for RAC vs. Script

• For two scripts, both boxes display the default script directory followed by script selection fields. When you select an existing script from each list, the script's path and file name appear in the selection box. If you want to use a script that is not stored in the default directory, you can enter its directory and name in either selection box.Figure 7-12 shows theCompare window for two scripts.

TheComparison Output box reports the differences in parameter values between the RACs and scripts you select. If parameter values differ, or if a parameter name does not exist, the box displays the parameter information. TheComparison Output box format depends on the option you choose.Table 7-1 describes these formats.

Table 7-1. Comparison Output Box Information

TheCompare process considers the wild card indicator (an asterisk (*)) as a special port number. If you selectScript vs. Script and the two scripts have the same parameter but one uses a wild card, the parameter appears in the output box.

4. Choose a RAC from each Annex List box that displays.

If your list has one RAC, you do not need to select it. If you want to compare two ports on the same RAC, select the same RAC in both list boxes.

5. Select one port type and a port number for each Annex List.

If you selected theAnnex vs. Annex option, you must select a port type that matches the parameters you selected. For all other Compare Options, you can select only the appropriate port type. If If values differ and

you select:

The Output Box includes:

RAC vs. RAC Parameter name followed by each RAC name, port number (if necessary), and the parameter value.

RAC vs. Script Parameter name followed by the RAC name and value, and the file name and value.

Script vs. Script Parameter name followed by each script name. Parameter values appear if a parameter exists in both scripts but values are different. If a parameter exists in one script but not in the other, the box lists the parameter name and explains which script stores the parameter.

you selected the same RAC in both list boxes, you must select different port numbers here.

If you selectedAnnex vs. Annex, go to step 6.

6. Choose an existing script from each Script List box that displays, or enter a script stored in another directory in the script selection field.

If you selected theAnnex vs. Script option and the script you use has wild card indicators, the comparisons are based on the port number you enter here.

If you selectedScript vs. Script and parameters match, but one script has wild card indicators,Compare considers this a difference in port numbers.

7. Click Apply.

TheComparison Output box lists the parameters and values that differ, displays the number of differences in theCompare process, and if necessary, lists error conditions.

When Annex Manager completesCompare processing, the box lists the number of differences found. If you repeat theCompare command for another combination of RACs and scripts, new information replaces the original display.

8. To save your output, click Save Output.

Save Output displays the standardFile Selection window, which includes the default text directory. You can enter a file name in the Selection field and clickOK to store the contents of the output box or clickCancel to return to theCompare window.
