on one of Thuringia’s greatest traditions.
»Glaube versetzt Berge!«
«Faith moves mountains!»
And sometimes churches. The Christ Pavilion – a joint project of the Catholic and Protestant churches in Germany – was the «soul of the World Exhibition»
at EXPO 2000 in Hanover, with nearly two million visitors. Now the pavilion has been moved to Volken
roda, just a few kilometres from Germany’s geogra
phic centre. A place for quiet contemplation and orientation – and for valuable encounters.
Max Weber
«Passion and a sense of proportion» – that’s how Max Weber descri
bed the ideal characte
ristics of a politician.
Born in Erfurt in 1864, Weber was a cofoun
der of the science of sociology. His postulate of valuefree science and his works – espe
cially «The Protestant Ethic…» and «Economy and Society» – are cor
nerstones of the modern social sciences. The exact opposite of Marx’s
«Historical Materia
lism», in terms of both content and metho
dology.

Alfred Brehm’s study Alfred Brehm came from the Thuringian town of Renthendorf.
During his career as zoologist he toured Africa, Spain, Scandi
navia and Siberia. We have his inquiring mind and drive to get to the bottom of things to thank for a valuable resource work that is still found in many households today:
«Brehm’s Animal Life».

»Brehms Tierleben«.
gen ».
Hans von Bülow As director of the Mei
ninger Hofkapelle from 1880–85, pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow established the court orchestra‘s fine reputation. He pleaded vehemently for the authentic performance of works by Beetho
ven, Wagner, Liszt and above all Brahms.

ciples».
