The LOGO! EduTrainer® training package is a universal mini control system for basic and further training which is aligned to actual operational reality. The LOGO! has been set up didactically to this end and is equipped with integrated connection technology for 4 mm laboratory plugs. The LOGO! EduTrainer® TP is programmed with the LOGO! control unit or a PC with LOGO!Soft Comfort programming software.

The LOGO! EduTrainer® TP can be used in order to implement simple automation projects. With its extensive basic and special control technology functions, LOGO! replaces a variety of conventional switchgear and control devices.

Which advantages does control with LOGO! offer?

– LOGO! is a mini control system. It’s especially well suited as a quick, uncomplicated and inexpensive introduction to logic signal processing.

– Learning content included with training packages TP 201 and TP 601 is expanded with LOGO!.

– The first step involves controlling processes with a relay controller.

– Processes are then controlled with the LOGO! mini control system.

You learn how to program and connect PLCs, and find out about their advantages with a manageable scope of training work.

– The LOGO! control program can be entered directly to the control unit or created conveniently at a PC with LOGO!Soft Comfort programming software. LOGO!Soft Comfort sample solutions for the processes covered by TP 201 and TP 601 can be found on the included CD-ROM.

– The LOGO! mini control system provides you with a compact training device with integrated connection technology for 4 mm safety plugs. Components included in the training packages from Festo Didactic can thus be directly connected.

Controlling the sample processes with LOGO!

Using exercise 1 from TP 201 as an example, the following pages show you how to control the electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic processes covered by TP 201 and TP 601 with the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP and the included LOGO!Soft Comfort programs. The sample solutions on the CD-ROM have been created with version 8 of LOGO!Soft Comfort. The utilized LOGO! EduTrainer® TP is equipped with a LOGO! from device series 0BA8.

1. Connect the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP to a power supply unit (24 V DC).

2. Switch the power supply unit on.

3. The LOGO! is not equipped with a mains switch. How LOGO! reacts when switched on depends upon:

– Whether or not a program has been stored to internal LOGO! memory or – Whether or not a memory card has been plugged in or

– The state of the LOGO! before it was last switched off

4. Make sure that the LOGO! is not executing a program and that it’s in the STOP mode. The main menu appears at the display unit when in the STOP mode. The prerequisites for later data transmission from the PC to the LOGO! are thus fulfilled.

5. If date and time or the initial window for the digital inputs or digital outputs appears at the display unit, the LOGO! is in the RUN mode. Set the LOGO! to the STOP mode:

– Press ESC.

– Select Stop:  or  key.

– Acknowledge with OK.

– Select Yes:  or  key.

– Acknowledge with OK.

The LOGO! main menu appears. The prerequisites for later data transmission from the PC to the LOGO!

have now been fulfilled.

6. Switch supply power to the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP back off again.

7. Set up the pneumatic and electrical circuits for exercise 1. During electrical wiring, take the fact into consideration that the electro-pneumatic processes will be controlled by the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP. For exercise 1, input signal S1 must be connected to input I1 at the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP and output signal 1M1 is connected to relay output Q1. Make sure that the utilized relay output Q1 is additionally connected to 24 V DC.

Observe safety and work instructions fore electro-pneumatic circuits!

8. Connect the Ethernet cable to the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP and to your PC. Plug the cable into the network port provided for this purpose. The other end of the cable is connected to the PC’s network port.

9. Switch supply power to the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP back on again.

10. Start LOGO!Soft Comfort at the PC.

11. Open the control program for exercise 1 from TP 201. A sample solution can be found in the TP201_01_LOGO.lsc file on the included CD-ROM. The control program is shown in the function chart view.

12. Make sure that your IP address is within the same range as the Logo!. If it isn’t, no connection can be established between the PC and the Logo!. Look for the IP address in the Logo! main menu to this end. It appears under “IP Address” in the “Network” menu. Adjust your IP address to the Logo!:

- Open the control panel at your PC.

- Then go to the “Network and sharing center”.

- Click “Local Area Connection”.

 The “Local Area Connection Status” dialog appears.

- Click “Properties”.

- Then double click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.

- Change from “Obtain an IP address automatically” to “Use the following IP address:”.

 Then enter a similar IP address which lies within the same range as the Logo!.

Example: LOGO! IP address: 192.168.0.2

PC’s IP address: 192.168.0.3

13. Transmit the control program to the LOGO!. Select the PC  LOGO! command under Transmit in the Extras menu to this end. Transmission can of course also be started by clicking the corresponding icon in the toolbar. The “Interface” window appears, in which you can search for contactable controllers and execute testing to determine whether or not you can establish a connection with a LOGO!. Click button 1 (see below) in order to look for available controllers within the network. Select the desired LOGO! from the field (see 2 below) and click the “Test” button (3) to conduct testing. Connection can now be established by clicking OK (4).

14. Start program execution in the LOGO!. Enter the required settings to this end directly via the LOGO!

control unit:

– Select the starting point in the main menu with the  or  key.

– Acknowledge with OK.

– Select Yes:  or  key.

– Acknowledge with OK.

Note

You can change the operating mode at the LOGO! via the PC as well. Click the “Change LOGO!

operating mode” command under “Transmit” in the “Extras” menu.

15. Now examine the sequence for the electro-pneumatic process.

Have fun creating and testing your own logic programs with the LOGO! EduTrainer® TP.

Note

Control programs can also be entered directly via the LOGO! control unit. In this case you need neither LOGO!Soft programming software nor an Ethernet cable for connecting a PC to the LOGO!

EduTrainer® TP.
