Brief description of the project

An individual treatment plan is decided based on the patient's problem and declared aims.

A weekly program equal for all consists of PT and relaxation, planning of the day, art class, individual therapy, excursions, massage, therapy group, participation in preparing dinner, evaluation of the week and planning of the activities and the menu for next week, own activities, cleaning their own rooms and lunch together.

Aims of the project

The aims are to relieve the symptoms, increase social contacts and to increase quality of lie. Long-term goals are to prevent relapse into psychiatric illness. Cognitive therapy is applied.

Method of Intervention

Individual sessions twice a week with a typical cognitive approach, home work etc. The intervention includes an individual treatment plan for all participants. Group discussions are carried out. In addition, there is an art class, promotion of social competencies and medical examination and if needed a neu-ropsychological examination.

Duration of the project The programme is in progress.

Target group/Participants

People aged 55 and above with anxiety-depressive difficulties.

Co-operation/Participants’ involvement

There is usual co-operation with the municipalities and psychiatric care. There are 5 patients at a time in the apartment specifically rented for this purpose. They live in these premises day and night, from Monday - Thursday for four weeks.

Outcomes of the project

During the year 2000 the programme had 61 patients (52 women, 9 men). The total number of care days was 896, and the average length of stay was 19.9 days. For 36 of the 61 patients, there are data on CPRS from both admission and discharge. At discharge 92 % had a lower score on the depres-sion scale, and 95 % had a lower score on the anxiety scale. The ambition was to reach at least 90 %.

43 of the 45 patients had a more positive score on the GAF (=96%). The ambition was to reach 98 %.

One aim was to close the files for 45 % of the patients within 6 months after discharge, the result was 46 % - 13 closed cases and 13 transferred to other units in psychiatric care.
