Sir Ernst Gombrich

Uta Lauer Dear list members,

this is to inform you of the sad news, that Sir Ernst H. Gombrich

peacefully passed away yesterday at his home in London, surrounded by his family.

He was not only one of the greatest art historians of the 20th century but also an eminent personality. During the many afternoons I had tea at Professor Gombrich's house, I have come to appreciate not only his inspiring and inquisitive mind, but also his wonderful personality. He was a gentleman who treated others with respect and sympathy. His voice will be sadly missed.
