Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellowship in a dynamic research team overseen by Brenda Schmahmann, holder of the SARChI Chair in South African Art and Visual Cul- ture in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Johannesburg.

Envisaged research must fall broadly into one of the following three rubrics: gender and visual cul- ture; public art and its discourses; art and design in the context of community projects.

The recipient will be expected to focus primarily on research and publishing in scholarly journals but also to provide assistant supervision to PhD and master’s students.

The fellowship is renewable for up to three years. The fellow will receive an allowance of R 220 000 per annum and will be provided with excellent work facilities in a supportive scholarly environ- ment.

Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degrees in the last five years.

The position would ideally be taken up in July 2020, but an alternative date can be negotiated.
