A symposium organised by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) at the Expo Milano, Swiss Pavilion on 4 September 2015, 13.00–15.30

How to feed a city – visions, technologies, emotions

What are our visions for feeding a city? Which solutions can technology offer for feeding an increasingly urbanized society? How do we feel when we think about cities’

food strategies? What challenges need to be met when developing an urban food policy?

Food is connected to a wide range of municipal and regional policy areas: from land-use planning to infrastructure and transport, environmental conservation,

health, and economic development. Food, then, becomes a vehicle for social integration and neighbourliness-in-action.

This symposium will inspire cities to think about the way they deal with food. Two keynote speakers will set the stage for a dialogue between two cities (Basel and Rotterdam) on how to reach an urban food policy that is fit for the future. The discussion with the audience is fuelled by an input on the Urban Food Policy Pact that aims at engaging cities for the development of sustainable food systems.
