Master Thesis: LISA Calibration Procedures & Accuracies
LISA: Laser Interferometry Space Antenna
• ESA Cosmic Vision Mission measuring gravitational waves (e.g. from black holes in space;
• Constellation mission acts as a giant detector based on a Michelson interferometer;
• Most complex control and estimation architecture ever flown in space (60 degrees of freedom);
• Measurement accuracies up 10-15 ms-2 at frequencies of about a millihertz;
• Calibration (=estimation of spacecraft noises sources, such as sensor misalignments, sensor biases, actuator biases, internal gravitational gradients) is driving LISA Performance;
• ESA Study lead by Airbus Friedrichshafen, with a large heritage from LISA Pathfinder;
Tasks
• Support the functional analysis of the LISA constellation;
• Identify the control and estimation loops including the required performance;
• Identify the calibrations procedure and in detail:
The required accuracies to reach the LISA mission performance;
The calibration procedures: duration, manoevres, (Kalman) filters to be used;
The achievable calibration accuracies.
Organisation
• Master thesis (6 months, from Spring 2020 on, starting date free);
• Please send motivation and CV directly to simon.delchambre@airbus.com.
