From the Desk of Father John Nickolai
Anyone who dropped in to the parish office recently might have seen some work being done. There are now three new windows on the ground floor of the office building. The large windows on the south wall have been replaced.
This is one of the less visible areas of our property, I know. Only people using the back driveway ordinarily see that side of the office. But it was a genuinely needed repair, both for reasons of security and energy savings. There were a few large holes where the wooden parts of the old windows had peeled and rotted.
You may also have noticed that a chalice veil is being used during Mass now. The General
Instruction of the Roman Missal, our current “how to” book for celebrating Mass, describes the use of the chalice veil as a “praiseworthy practice,”
although it is an option not widely exercised in recent years.
The chalice veil may be understood as doing for the Liturgy of the Eucharist what the Book of the Gospels does for the Liturgy of the Word. The Book of the Gospels is often an exceptionally beautiful book, richly decorated, so as to highlight the importance of the readings proclaimed from it.
Similarly, the chalice veil emphasizes the dignity of the sacred vessels, which will receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
The chalice veil is also a reminder of the veil in the Temple, which marked the boundary of the holiest part of the Temple, the innermost sanctuary.
At the death of Jesus, the veil was torn open, signifying that the true sanctuary, the heavenly Temple, was once again open. At every Mass, the same singular sacrifice of Christ is made present once again, and we are brought nearer to heaven.
In your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul(s) of:
Garry Lake,
son of Ralph Lake of our parish.Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT 5
Advent Giving Trees
Our St. Vincent DePaul Society will continue the tradition of offering parishioners and friends the opportunity to share some Christmas joy with families in our community. Our Advent Giving Trees will be set up in Church until Sunday, December 12th. Each tree will be
decorated with ornaments containing the hopeful wishes of many eager children, with their specific requests listed on red and green ornaments. In addition, pink, purple and blue ornaments feature the needs of three wonderful service organizations: TEAM (The Emergency Assistance Ministry) requests paper products and cleaning supplies, Our Lady’s Inn needs items for pregnant women and their children ages 113, and St. Vincent DePaul Society could use monetary gifts to help our neighbors with utility bills, etc.
We invite you to select ornaments from the trees after weekend or weekday Masses between until Dec. 12th. Anyone who is not able to attend Mass inperson during this time, but would still like to grant a specific child’s wish may contact the parish office for assistance. If you would like to support the Giving Tree Program in general, you can also send a check with “Advent Giving Tree” in the memo line or use this Online Giving Link to make an online donation:
https://www.osvhub.com/strpdparish/funds/adventgivingtree These funds will be used to purchase gift cards from our parish TWB program for families, and volunteers will shop for any gifts on ornaments left on the trees after Dec. 12th.
ALL gifts and donations will be collected after all Masses on December 1819 in the Parish Meeting Rooms. Gifts for children may be returned wrapped or unwrapped. Please remember to attach the ornament to your gift or donation so that we know to whom it belongs. PLEASE DO NOT TAPE ORNAMENT COMPLETELY TO THE PACKAGE. We need to be able to read both sides of the ornament to send your gift to the correct family. ALL gifts must be returned by noon on December 19th as they will be distributed to families that same afternoon.
All of us in the St. Rose St. Vincent De Paul Society thank you in advance for your generosity and good will. May you all have a blessed Christmas.
St. Rose Christmas Variety Club Show.
Fun for the entire family.
Saturday, December 11th
Tickets are available for purchase in the parish office—$5.00 general admission and $6.00 for cushioned seat. You can
also purchase tickets at the door.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served after the show.
We will be collecting new or gently used winter apparel (coats, scarves, hats,
gloves) to be given to those in need.

Peggy Baker, RNWinter Car Care!
Winter is coming, is your car ready for the cold climate? AAA experts list recommended maintenance for your vehicle.
x Tire Pressure: Overinflated tires ride roughly and suffer premature wear, while underinflated tires decrease fuel economy and can overheat and fail at highway speeds. Check the tire pressures (including the spare) once a month when tires are cold.
x Engine Air Filter: this filter prevents dust and dirt from entering the engine. A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance and fuel economy. Check the filter every 6 months or 7,500 miles. Hold it up to a 60 watt light bulb; if you can’t see light through the filter, it’s time to replace it.
x Battery Cables/Clamps/Terminals: if these components become corroded or loose, your car won’t have the power it needs to start the engine and operate other systems. Inspect the battery cables, clamps and connections at each oil change. Have your repair shop clean and tighten as necessary. At the temperature of 32 degrees, your battery has 15% less starting power while the engine needs 3 ½ times more power to start.
x Windshield Washer Fluid: A dirty windshield can compromise your vision of the road. Keep your reservoir full, check it monthly. Replace wiper blades if needed.
x Engine Oil: without an adequate supply of clean oil, your vehicle’s engine will wear more rapidly and could even seize and be destroyed.
Change the engine oil and filter at the specified intervals.
x Radiator: check your coolant strength with a hydrometer. Recommended protection level is 36 degrees. Never check hot.
x Belts and Hoses: check belts for cracks or fraying. Check hoses for leaks, bulges or cracks. Make sure clamps are secure.
x Lights: make sure all lights and signals are working and clean.
x Fluids: check all fluid levels (brake, transmission, and radiator coolant and power steering fluid) to be sure full to meet owner’s manual directions.

What’s happening at AllSaints Academy/St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Campus?
What a welcome gift, Advent! Advent is here to remind us to calm our minds and open our hearts for the greatest gift: Christ born to us. May we all be able to take time during these weeks to reflect on what it means to welcome Christ into the world.
Congratulations to our second graders who prepared long and hard for the sacrament of Reconciliation.
What a special sacrament to celebrate as we enter into the holy weeks of Advent. Special thanks to Fr.
Nickolai for sharing this sacrament with our students. Thanks to Ms. Corkery for all of her preparation with the students.
Be assured of our prayers for you as we journey through this holy and sacred season.
Peace!

SPREADING ADVENT JOY
Let’s challenge each other to make this Advent the best Advent yet. Many people feel that they cannot help like they used to, so let’s challenge each other to help in other
ways. This is just a starting point, some general ideas, feel free to do whatever makes you happy and brings you and
others joy this Advent Season.
Send a note to a friend, make an unexpected phone call to someone wishing them well, put up your own Advent wreath at home and take the time as a family to pray daily around it, take a piece or two of gently used clothing and donate it, put toiletry items into the SVDP boxes at the doors (did you know that you are unable to buy toiletry items with food stamps?), surprise the person behind you in the grocery store or restaurant and pay for their order, spend an hour in the Eucharistic Chapel devoting your prayer time for someone’s needs, bring someone an unexpected meal or treat, offer to help clean or shop for someone who cannot do for themselves...
DONUT SUNDAY NEXT WEEK, HOSTED BY OUR ACTS COMMUNITY.
JOIN US AFTER MASSES NEXT SUNDAY AND ENJOY SOME FELLOWSHIP!
This is just a reminder for those who already purchased their Christmas
Party Tickets.
The Senior Club Christmas Party will be on Monday, December 13, 2021. Mass
will be at 11:00 AM followed by Lunch in the
Parish Hall.
As the liturgical year ends and a new one begins, tune in to Covenant Network for the best in Catholic radio programming to help you prepare your heart to receive the Christ Child this Christmas season. Tune in to KHOJ 1460 AM or 92.7 FM on the radio or listen live on our free Covenant Network App or at OurCatholicRadio.org.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT 11
LITURGY OF THE WORD
Penitential Act (Confiteor)
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (strike breast) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary everVirgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (Bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, (End Bow) suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

We are glad you came to worship with us today.
Dear Lord,
Through the darkness, I look for your wisdom.
I want my heart to be open to you.
But sometimes in these days, it seems that so many things come between us.
Help me to be awake and aware of the radiance you bring to my life.
Help me to be grateful each day for the blessings of family and friends.
Let me be a peacemaker
in my own life, and in the world.
Let me pray especially for this difficult world and those who are so in need of an end to violence.
My heart begs for this as my Advent prayer today.
