The Production of the Self: Marisa Merz Study Day & Workshop
In this daylong program, curators and scholars pay homage to artist Marisa Merz’s life and legacy and discuss often overlooked aspects of her practice, including:
The relationship to reproductive labor, domesticity, and the classical;
Experimentation in material and form;
Merz’s connection (or lack thereof) to contemporaneous women artists in Italy and abroad;
Her ambiguous position amongst artists associated with Arte Povera.
This program includes presentations by invited speakers as well as a series of roundtable discus- sions. It is preceded by a public talk about Merz on April 23 by Connie Butler, chief curator at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
