Past simple or progressive
Melanie writes about her brother. Fill in the correct past forms:
Let me tell you what happened at our house yesterday. I was walking (walk) down the road with our little dog, when suddenly I saw (see) smoke coming from our kitchen window. I ran (run) into the house and shouted, "Fire, fire!" But there wasn't a fire.
My brother was making (make) some toast, but he was not in the kitchen. "Andy!" I shouted (shout). "Come here! Your toast's burning!" "Oh dear," he said. "I repaired (repair) the toaster only two days ago.” While he was trying (try) to get the burnt toast out of the toaster, I cut some bread and made some tea.

Dear Patrick,
I'm in an Internet cafe at the moment because I really have to tell you something. Yesterday my brother and I visited Madame Tussaud's - you know, the museum with waxworks of famous people. It's amazing how real they look. I touched the wax figure of Arnold Schwarzenegger when I suddenly saw a sign saying 'Don't touch the waxworks!' It was too Tate. I had already touched it by then. Last night I had a nightmare. It was so horrible that I woke up in the middle of the night shaking all over. I started to panic when suddenly my mum came into my room. `Daniel, you were having a bad dream. Everything is ok,' she said. In my dream I visited the Tower of London because I wanted to see the Crown Jewels. White I was waiting in the long-queue I heard a voice screaming, 'Run quickly! Catch him!' Everybody ran away. Only I was left standing there. I tried to move but I couldn't. Suddenly a strange figure appeared out of nowhere. It was Arnold Schwarzenegger, moving like a robot. He shouted in a terrifying voice, 'You thief! Give the jewels back!' I wanted to run but I couldn't.
Something drew me back. Suddenly the figure grabbed my right arm and threw me high up into the air. Then I was at the police station. When I saw the policeman I was shocked a second time. He looked like Arnold. How could that be? I was trembling with fear (= vor Angst zittern). The
policeman wanted to arrest me because he thought I had stolen the Crown Jewels. I wanted to tell him that I was just a tourist from Austria but he didn’t understand what I said. He only shouted, 'Arrest him!” It was horrible, I can tell you. Then I woke up and happy that t was all just a dream. I’ll have to finish off now because my parents are waiting outside.
We are going shopping on Oxford Street. I want to buy some new jeans and a T-Shirt with the English flag on it. See you next Saturday.

A walk in the woods
The pictures show the beginning of an adventure. Write down the complete story. Write about 120 words.
One warm Sunday evening Sam and her dog Pug went for a walk in the woods.
The weather was nice so Sam decided to pick some flowers for her mum, because the next day was her birthday party. But before she could do this she slipped on a wet stone and fell. Sam landed very hard. When she wanted to stand up her right knee hurt terribly. Suddenly she saw that blood was coming out of it. “Pug, please run home and bring me my first aid box!” she said to her dog. After 20 minutes Pug came back with the box. Sam took a handkerchief and pressed it on her knee until it stopped to hurt.
When they came home Sam told her mum the story.
