"ESTIEM'S 5 ^TH ANNIVERSARY

From November 21st ro 26^lh ESTIEM held their 11th Council Meeting in Ham- burg, the very famous rown in me norm of Germany. The main ropic were the five years of existence.

Beside 140 IEM-Students from 40 dif- ferent European universities, one member of me WIV student group was involved.The following artide shall briefly describe the world of ESTIEM.

ESTIEM (European Students of Indu- strial Engineering and Management) was founded in Berlin in November 1990 by European students of Industrial Enginee- ring and Management ro serve as the pa- rent organisation of meir existing local stu- dent groups, with Graz (WIV-S) being a founder member. The nurnber of student groups affiliated ro ESTIEM has grown continously since its formation and has now exceeded 40 localme~bergroups from 19 European countries. The aim is defined in its statutes as

In its five years of existence, ESTIEM has created and launched a number of pro- jeets.

The VISION-Project is aseries of semi- nars taking place at several universities throughout Europe.Iris organised by stu- dents of each local group and covers a spe- cial theme every year. These seminars in- dude lecrures, round-rables. workshops and company-visits presented by professors and company representatives. Previous ropics have indudedTQM,Ecology& Economy and Future Logistics in European countries.

The summaries of the presentations and the results of me srudies and workshops of a11 seminars will be published in a book.

This book will be availiable for the partici- pants and other people that are interested.

TIMES (Tournament in Managrnent and Engineering Skills) is an European case- comperition for srudents ofIEM. The main idea is to give them a possibility to prove meir management knowledge and capabi- lities. With the help and support from com- panies and universities it is possible for IEM-Srudents ro compete on a European level.

Within so-called Bilateral Activities, single local groups visit each other in order to learn something abour foreign universi- ries, companies and ways ofstudying in dif- ferent countries. Common activities help ro establish and intensify personal contacts.

The ESTIEM-Magazin ist the official journal ofESTIEM. It is published twice a year and covers general information abour ESTIEM and the acriviries, provides an op- porruniry for the exchange of ideas and is an organ for members of ESTIEM, com- panies and professors. There are also some other publishing activities beside this Ma- gazin (Study Guide, Resurne Book, Vision Book).

"The rapid growth of ESTIEM and the increasing number of srudents working ro improve exchange programmes and con- racts ro European Business is evidence ofme need for dose cooperation between profes- sors and European IEM-Students".
