Ecological niche
Definition of ecological niche pg 218 iGCSE book.
Select an organism of your choice plant or animal.
Describe it's adaptations and its ecological Niche.
Finish your presentation today on the Macbook and SAVE them.
It will be shown next week to the other students, you don't have to 'present' your work in front of the class, you can just go through each slide quickly stating the main points, you can sit down at the desk and do it if you like. THIS WILL NOT BE GRADED. Make it attractive and interesting. It is for information only so that we get a selection of different organisms and their specific Niches. this is NOT intended to be done at home. Lesson only.
Do not pick an organism which has already been chosen.

Lets just check that we know what adaptations are.
Apr 2610:05
Differences in environment force a change in the organisms living there.
In a very hot climate, organisms that lose water easily will not survive and therefore will not have chance to reproduce. Those that do have a chance to reproduce will be able to adapt their characteristics to favour that environment.
The genes of a crocodile that can run fast will get passed on to the next generation, as that crocodile will be able to catch prey easily, will become well fed, better able to reproduce.
A slow crocodile will not catch as much food, be smaller, more likely to loose in fights for females the genes will get wiped out of the gene pool.

Kiwi activity
Kiwi birds are flightless birds native to New Zealand.
Kiwi Activity
Kiwi are the only bird to have nostrils at the end of their very long bill. Their nostrils are used to probe in the ground, sniffing out invertebrates to eat, along with some fallen fruit.

They are shy and avoid human contact, preferring to remain within the safety of forests.
Breeding season for the kiwi begins in June, the New Zealand winter, and continues through to about March of the following year. Kiwis dig a burrow for the egg, or find a preexisting burrow, several months before it is laid.
Kiwi are nocturnal birds
