Internship and Master Thesis

Economics students and students of social science have the possibility to complete their compulsory internship of three months at the Federal Energy Efficieny Center (BfEE). The intern supports the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) in all practical matters regarding energy efficiency. In certain cases, there is also the possibility of support for the preparation of the master thesis.

The Federal Energy Efficiency Center

The Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) was lounged in January 2009 as part of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). It was lounged to support the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in their effort to implement the European and national regulations regarding energy efficiency.

Through its work the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) contributes to reach the objective of an economi- cally, secure and ecological energy supply as it is set out in the government´s energy concept and at EU-level.

In addition, the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) supports the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) when it comes to the further development of national and European energy efficiency policies by providing subject-related and scientific expertise.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities that lie with the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) are laid down in the Energy Service Act (EDL-G). According to the Energy Service Act, the Federal Energy Efficiency Center is entrusted with the analysis and development of scientific and methodological frameworks as well as the development and further improvement of measures to increase energy efficiency.

On top of this, the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) follows up on various reporting obligations and informati- on requirements to society and the European commission.

Core Activities of the Federal Energy Efficiency Center

• Scientific and professional support for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in all aspects regarding energy saving and energy efficiency.

• Observation and evaluation of the German market for energy services and regular commissioning of compre- hensive evaluations regarding its development. Based on these evaluations, recommendations for the further advancement of the market for energy services are developed.

• Maintaining a record of suppliers of energy services to increase market transparency for consumers and promo- te the energy service market.

• Provide information for the public and market parti- cipants on the actions of public authorities to increase energy efficiency.

• Initiating and supervising of scientific studies.

• Representation of Germany in international commit- tees such as the Concerted Action regarding the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Concerted Action regarding the Energy Performance in Buildings Direc- tive (EPBD) and EU committee meetings concerning energy efficiency.

Advisory Board

A board of experts supports the Federal Energy Efficiency Center (BfEE) in its work. This board consists of fourteen representatives, deriving from energy service provider, supplier of energy audits and energy efficiency measures, end-consumers, energy companies and independent experts with specific qualifications in the field of energy efficiency.
