Column chromatography of the light petroleum fraction from the methanolic extract of the stem bark of Salix tetrasperma Roxb. (Salicaceae) resulted in the isolation of ȕ-sitosterol acetate, friedelin, 3ȕ-friedelinol, ȕ-amyrin, ȕ-sitosterol, ȕ-sitosterol-O-glucoside in addition to palmitic acid. From the dichloromethane fraction of the leaves, catechol and tremulacin were isolated. Salicin and its derivatives tremuloidin and 2’-O-p-(E)-coumaroyl salicin were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves. The isolated compounds were identifi ed by MS, and 1D NMR (1H and 13C) and 2D NMR (H-H COSY, HSQC, and HMBC) spectral analyses. The total methanolic extract exhibited signifi cant anti-infl ammatory activity (rat hind paw oedema). The extract with a content of 120 mg/kg body weight produced 52%

inhibition equivalent to the standard diclofenac sodium (54% inhibition). The antioxidant (DPPH free radical scavenging) and analgesic activities, respectively, were also evaluated.

Among the tested compounds, eugenol (5), isolated from the chloroform fraction, showed an antibacterial effect at a concentration of 100 μg/ml with inhibi- tion zones of 20, 22,

The aim of the present study was to characterize the chemical profi le of the leaves and stem bark of the plant and to evaluate the anti- infl ammatory (rat hind paw

The qualitative antibacterial activities of the crude extract and isolated compounds were determined by the disk diffusion method while the minimum

In this report, we describe the quantitative antibacterial activities of recently reported ramalin and three usnic acid derivatives, usimine A, usimine B, and usimine C,

The results showed that the BdE, similar to the GPE, displays antimicrobial activity, which may be related to the effect of several compounds present in the crude extract. Key

On the basis of the botanical origin of Brazilian green propolis and its antimicrobial activity, the aim of this work was to evaluate the in vitro anti- bacterial and

Although, the n-butanolic fraction obtained from successive fractionation showed activity at IC 50 = 2.6 μ g/ml, the isolated three steroidal compounds 1, 2 and 5 were tested
