DEFINE AXES OPTIONS - (Selection 3)

Im Dokument NEe GraphPlan (Seite 123-128)

This selection allows you to specify whether you want your X-axis to be text, data, or numeric. You can specify linear or logarithmic scaling for both axes. The scale of the X- and Y-axes can be adjusted and you can determine the number of labeled unit and ticks on both axes. Finally, you can control the location of the legends, grid lines, and the framing of the chart.

Note that the options in the Define Axes Options menu have no effect on pie charts.

The following screen shows all the options with their default values in the Define Axes Options menu. The options are explained in the pages immediately following the screen.

Description of Options

X Axes Type (T, D, N)

Enter T if you want the X-axis to be labeled with the row titles or column titles from the table. If your table is in row mode, the X-axis will be labeled with column titles. If your table is in col-umn mode, the X-axis will be labeled with row titles.

For text labels, you may want to return to the table to shorten or abbreviate the row/column titles for proper display.

Date Type (W, M, Q, Y, MY, QY)

Date Start

Enter D if you want date labels on the X-axis. GraphPlan will allow you to label the X-axis as days, months, quarters, years, and date combinations like month/year and quarter/year.

Enter N if you want a numeric X-axis. GraphPlan will then ask you to enter a number to identify the row / column data to be used as numeric values for the X-axis.

For horizontal bar charts, do not use "Date" or "Numeric" types - use "Text".

Default: T ( text)

If you have entered D (Date) in the "X Data Type" option, you can now specify whether you want weekdays (W), months (M), quarters (Q), years (Y), a combination of months and years (MY), or a combination of quarters and years (QY) on your X-axis.

If you have entered T (Text) or N (Numeric) for the "X Axes Type" option, this option and the following "Date Start" option will be ignored. The message line will prompt you to move on down the menu.

If you have entered W (weekdays) in the "Date Type" option, GraphPlan will ask you for the starting day of each week. The message "Starting weekday (1-7)?" will appear on the second line of the menu. For instance, if you enter 1, the labeling begins with Monday.

If you have entered M (months) in the "Date Type" option, GraphPlan will ask you for the starting month. The message

"Starting month (1-12)?" will appear on the second line of the menu. If you want the X-axis to be labeled by month beginning with January, for example, you should enter 1 for this option.

Draw Frame (N, L, B)

Legend (N, L, R, B)

If you have entered Q (quarters) in the "Date Type" option, GraphPlan will ask you for the starting quarter. The message

"Starting quarter (1-4)?" will appear on the second line of the menu. If you want the X-axis to be labeled by quarter beginning with the first quarter, you should enter 1 for this option.

If you have entered Y (years) in the "Date Type" option, Graph-Plan will ask you for the starting year. The message "Starting year (1-9999)?" will appear on the second line of the menu.

If you have entered MY (months/years) in the "Date Type" op-tion, GraphPlan will first ask you for the starting month and then the starting year.

If you have entered QY (quarters/years) in the "Date Type" op-tion, GraphPlan will first ask you for the starting quarter and then the starting year.

Enter N if you do not want to frame your chart.

Enter L if you only want to frame the X-axis.

Enter B if you want a double frame around the chart.

Default: B (box)

Enter N if you do not want legends to identify your graphs.

Enter L if you want your legends to be placed on the left side of the chart.

Enter R if you want your legends to be placed on the right side of the chart.

Enter B if you want your legends to be placed on the bottom of the chart.

The following options apply to both axes. However, the options for the X-axis are ignored by GraphPlan unless you have specified a numeric X-axis. Therefore, if you have specified date type or text type, the message line will prompt you with "X-axis is not numeric . . . press RETURN to continue." axis. Logarithmic scaling is suitable if your data extends over a very large range of values.

Default: L (linear)

Enter Y if you want GraphPlan to calculate the minimum and maximum values from your data and scale them accordingly.

The message line will prompt you to move the cursor past the scaling options.

Enter N if you want to control the scaling of your axis.

Note that the "Minimum", "Maximum" and "Number of Major Divisions" options are ignored by GraphPlan unless you have specified N in this option.

Default: Y

Enter values to adjust the scaling of the axis. "Minimum" option sets the minimum value of the axis that will appear on the chart.

"Maximum" option sets the maximum value; and the "Number of Major Divisions" option defines the number of divisions

be-tween the minimum and the maximum on your axis.

Note that the maximum allowed value of "Number of Major Divisions" is 10.

Number of Minor Ticks

Draw Grid Lines

Enter the number of minor ticks to be placed between the major divisions on the axis. Note that the maximum allowed value is 5.

"Number of Minor Ticks" does not apply to logarithmic scaling.

Default: 0

Enter Y if you want grid lines to be drawn at major divisions.

Default: Y for the Y-axis, and N for the X-axis.
