The isoflavonoids coumestrol, genistein and daidzein have been isolated and identified by bioassay-guided fractionation from the acetone extract ofErythrina crista galliyoung twigs infected withPhomopsissp. These compounds showed antimicrobial activity againstBacillus brevis(MIC values16.3, 64.8 and 137.8µm, respectively). This is the first time that coumes- trol, besides lutein andn-nonacosane, are reported in this species.
