International Conference on Malaria and Babesiosis Mexico City, Mexico, April 30 through May 3,1979 An International Conference on Malaria and Babesiosis will be held in Mexico City April 30 through May 3. 1979. Outstanding scientists from throughout the world will present current knowledge on the diseases, their treatment, transmission, immunology, immunopathology. immunization, morphologic and biochemical properties and the cultivation of the causative agents. In conjunction with the conference, a workshop on malaria and babesiosis will be held on Monday Evening. April 30. Those wishing to make a presentation at the workshop, please submit an informative abstract for consideration before December 31. 1978. Attendance at the Conference is open to the public, permitting interested individuals for the first time to obtain direct information from the research scientists about the recent exciting developments on these diseases. The symposium is being jointly organized by the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Pecuarias of Mexico. The Ohio State University. The University of Illinois and The Rockefeller Foundation. Those interested in receiving the program and registration materials or submitting an abstract for the workshop should send their full name and mailing address to the Conference Organizing Committee in care of Professor Miodrag Ristic. World Health Organization Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases The search. for scientists to search for the tools to control the tropical diseases. The search for new tools to control disease in the tropical countries requires scientists of many disciplines. Molecular and cell biologists, biochemists, immunologists. parasitologists and entomologists are among those whose contributions are needed. The research areas covered by the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases are:. -. malaria, schistosomiasis, filariasis. trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis and leprosy: epidemiology, biomedical sciences, biological control of vectors, and socio-economic research.. Specific fields within these research areas are developed by the Programme's Scientific Working Groups. Scientists from any country are welcome to submit proposals for research grants within the specific fields. (3) Instructions to authors Manuscripts in English. German or French should be submitted in duplicate (i.e. the original with one copy, and two sets of illustrations) to Acta Tropica. Swiss Tropical Institute. Socmstr. 57. CH-4051 Basel. Switzerland. They will be sent, as a rule, to two referees inside or outside the country. The decision to accept, revise, or refuse a paper will be made by the editors. The editors assume that papers submitted to Acta Tropica have not been and will not be published elsewhere. The manuscripts should be typewritten double-spaced with a wide margin. Original papers should not exceed 12 printed pages including tables and figures (24 typewritten pages of 32 lines of 60 letters). Exceptionally, the editors may accept larger manuscripts. A short and precise summary, only in English, should precede the article and contain the essential information. For papers written in German or French the summary should be more detailed and must be preceded by the English translation of the title. Original papers should, as far as possible, be organized as follows: Summary - Key Words Introduction - Material and Methods Results Discussion Acknowledgments References.. -. Short communications may not exceed. -. 2. -. -. printed pages including illustrations.. Bibliographical references should be arranged at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order of the authors and numbered, featuring name and initials of authors, full title of paper, name of journal abbreviated in accordance with the list «World Medical Periodicals» of the World Health Organization, followed by volume, page(s). and year of publication. Tables and figures should be added to the manuscript on separate sheets and numbered, headings and legends being on a special sheet. In view of production costs, the number of figures and tables must be restricted to an irreducible minimum. The publisher can accept only 3—4 pages of half-tone illustrations per article at his expense. Additional half-tone pages will be charged for at a rate of sFr. 100- per page. Color plates can be reproduced only as an exception and at the author's expense. Photographs should be presented on glossy paper in two complete sets. In the first set labels and explanatory marks to be added should be indicated with black or white transfer letters or with ink. As far as possible photographs should be arranged into groups and mounted on a white board so that they can be easily reproduced in the way shown in this review (type area: 11.7 X 17.6 cm). The second set will consist simply of the photographs, unmounted, with no additions at all. only numbered on the back.. The complete postal address of the authors must be indicated.. Galley proofs will be sent to the authors for correction. Author's corrections up to 10% of the cost of composition are paid for by the publishers: additional corrections at the author's expense. Proofs are to be returned within the time limit indicated: otherwise publication may be delayed. The publishers will produce 50 reprints ot each paper without cover free of charge. Further copies will be provided at the rates indicated in the order form you will receive with the galley proofs..
