The Centenary of Bruecke (Brighton, 8-9 Sept 05)
Christian Poul Weikop
1905 / 2005: The Centenary of Brücke: Pioneers of German Expressionism University of Sussex, Brighton (Thursday 8 / Friday 9 September 2005) This two-day international conference will mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Brücke, the first German Expressionist group. It has the support of the Department of Art History and the Centre for Modernist Studies at the University of Sussex.
Other events elsewhere in Europe have celebrated this occasion, including an exhibition in Madrid, a colloquium in Brucke's 'birthplace' Dresden, and a 'blockbuster' show at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin (on until August 28th). However, this will be the only event staged in the UK, and as such is unmissable!
To reflect the significance of this occasion, a 'world-class' line-up of speakers from the United States and Europe has been put together, including the likes of Donald Kuspit, Reinhold Heller, Rose-Carol
Washton Long, Timothy O. Benson, Shulamith Behr, Colin Rhodes, Monika Wagner, Mario-Andreas von Lüttichau and many others. A complete list of speakers and further information is available at
www.sussex.ac.uk/arthistory or contact the conference organiser

Bookings will be taken until the end of August. A downloadable booking form is available at www.sussex.ac.uk/arthistory.
