Interview guide

Thank you very much for taking your time for this interview.

Introduction

Describing the research question and expectations

We are interested to find more about how you experienced the CPP as an implementing researcher within the X project. We would like you to share your perspective on how the CPP was prepared and

implemented in your project, and on those related actions (e.g. tasks, sub-tasks) which went good, less good or even wrong during all the phases of the process.

Please share with us those factors, which you would describe as successful, and those which you would describe as barriers when you and your team developed and implemented the CPP. You can think of those factors as those, which positively or negatively influenced the quality of the process.

Think about those factors related to the following phases:

- preparing the CPP

- conducting/implementing the CPP (the planning sessions and in-between sessions) - post-processing the CPP, the implementation of the action plan and planned measures First, some questions about your scientific expertise.

1. Personal information:

Experiences with the CPP approach 1.A

1.B

Please introduce yourself with name and age.

Can you please tell the approximately number of years you are familiar with the CPP approach?

1.C Which was your role in the X project?

1.D Were you familiar with the CPP approach prior to your project?

1.E How were you involved in planning the CPP for your specific project?

How were you actually involved in the CPP sessions?

• Did you participate in all the CPP sessions?

• Which was your role during the CPP sessions?

1.F Did you had the chance to plan or implement the CPP in other projects?

• Which projects? What role did you had?

2. The cooperative planning process

A) The preparation phase (preparing the implementation of the CPP)

P.1 Who was the target group addressed in your project? Regarding participation

P.2 How did you succeed to involve the target group in the project? Regarding participation

P.3 From your perspective, why did the target group participate in the project (also process)?

Regarding participation Ask about possible reasons, motivation.

A.1. Overall, how did the preparation phase of the CPP go?

A.2 How would you rate the preparation phase of the CPP?

A.3. What went good in this phase and what went less good, or even wrong? Please give concrete examples from the

(2)

From your perspective, which are those facilitators and barriers important to consider within this phase?

project.

A.4. If you would have the chance again to plan and prepare the CPP, what would you do exactly the same and what would you do differently?

B) Conducting/implementing the CPP (CPP sessions and in-between sessions) P.4 From your perspective, which were the expectations (also aims or goals) of

the target group from the project/process?

From your perspective, which changes did the target group hope for?

Which changes did the target group propose in the process?

Regarding participation

B.1. Overall, how did the implementation of the CPP go?

B.2. How would you rate the CPP sessions?

B.3. What went good in this phase and what went less good, or even wrong?

From your perspective, which are those facilitators and barriers important to consider within this phase?

Please give concrete examples from the project.

B.4. If you would have the chance again to run the CPP sessions, what would you do exactly the same and what would you do differently?

C) Post-processing the CPP/implementation of the action plan and its planned measures P.5 Were the expectations (also the changes they hoped for) of the target group

reached (especially by using the CPP as a method)?

Regarding participation

C.1. Overall, how did the implementation of the action plan go?

What does the post-processing of the CPP involved?

C.2. How would you rate the implementation of the action plan with its measures?

C.3. What went good in this phase and what went less good, or even wrong?

From your perspective, which are those facilitators and barriers important to consider within this phase?

Please give concrete examples from the project.

C.4. If you would have the chance again to post-process the CPP and/or to get involved in the implementation of the action plan, what would you do exactly the same and what would you do differently?

3. Reflection / critical perspective

3.A Why was the CPP choose for the project?

 Why could the CPP led to the targeted goals of the project?

 Did the CPP led the project to achieve its goals?

3.B If you would have the chance to conduct the project once again, would you still choose the CPP or would you choose another approach?

3.C What are your experiences with other planning/participatory approaches similar to the CPP?

3.D Regarding the goals of the project, would another approach be more

(3)

suitable or effective than the CPP?

3.E If another researcher would like to implement the CPP in a project, and you would have the chance to make a few recommendations regarding factors facilitating and hindering the process, what would those be?

Ending the interview.

Thank you very much for your time and willingness to share your projects insights with us.
